1 A 16 THE RECORD, FRIDAY. JANUARY 21, 1972 Radio Highlights 7 Best Bets On 27 I i (4) Sanford and Sob. "Happy Birthday, Pop." With all noble intentions, Lamont takes his father out on the town to celebrate his 63th birthday. The old man is unimpressed with dinner at a Chinese restaurant, a nightclub, and especially with the movie version of "Fiddler on the Roof." But Sanford is delighted with his son's attentions. (4) XBC Friday Night at the Movies.

"Return of the Seven." The original "Magnificent Seven" was a rousing, action-filled adventure with Yul Brynner and Steve McQueen. The sequel, "Return of the Seven," finds Brynner in his old role, with a new cast, including Warren Oates, Claude Akins, and Robert Fuller. It lacks the punch of the original. The story picks up with one of the old gang (all of whom have by now retired and reformed) kidnapped by outlaws, and two of the old gang go to his rescue. (J) Ilorse Earing.

Taped fast before this telecast, the Virginia Belle stakes race and the nsnth race held at Bowie Race Track comprise the main events. As a special bonus, there is a fJm of Australia's Melbourne Cup Race. 7:30 9:60 (13) NET Playhouse Biography. (Season's Premiere). "Lorraine Hans berry: To Be Young, Gifted and Black." (Repeat).

Don't miss this portrait of the eloquent black playwright whose first play, "A Raisin In the Sun," brought her international acclaim, and whose short life ending at age 34 in 1965, was filled with a rebellious quest for freedom. It is based on her diaries, letters, and portions of her plays, and woven together by her husband, Robert Nemiroff. The cast is superb, especially Ruby Dee and Al Freeman Jr. 8:00 8:30 (I) All In the Family. Sudden shock hits the Bunkers tonight in the form of a 4 year-old boy whose mom claims he is Mike Stivic's son.

This problem sets off a barrage of lingers directed at Mike, with the head of the household getting a chance for witticisms. 4) Emergency. (Premiere). Jack Webb keeps the fire rescue squad emergency ward doctors hustling in this opener with a plethora of accident victims. Webb runs the gamut here as his heroes rush from auto wrecks, to a diabetic, an actor with a heart attack, a hunter stuck on a ledge, and an emotionally troubled woman.

8:00 to conclusion (9) Pro Hockey. The New York Rangers vs. the Vancouver Canucks, from Pacific Coliseum. (2) The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Here's a switch newsroom boss Lou Grant is conned into baby sitting with Mary's neighbor, little Bess, and the combination of sour Grant and the bright kid works nicely.

(7) Movie of the Weekend. "The People (1972). Kim Darby, William Shatner, Diane Varsi, and Dan (2) The New CBS Friday Night Movies. "Something Evil." Sandy Dennis and Darren McGavin day a I A THINS young couple who move with their family into an old farmhouse in Pennsylvania where they encounter an evil spirit. Veteran actor Ralph Bellamy plays a friendly neighbor whose study of the supernatural fascinates Sandy.

Some bizarre events convince Sandy she is being possessed by a demonic force. () Television sandy oennii 7) Love, American Style. A lot is packed into this hour tonight with five vignettes programmed, starring Julie Newmar, Judy Came, Ray Walston, and Frank Sutton. Funny send-off is "Love and the Bathtub" with Julie as a movie star whose plans to wed on TV are delayed when she gets her toe stuck in the bathtub drain before the wedding. (2) The Don Rickles Show.

Rickles gets a chance to do a lot of the mugging and bugging that made him a top nightclub act. It's the funniest of the new series to date, with Don getting a draft notice by mistake, and going through the induction process. The encounter with the psychiatrist is very funny. 1 i rt 4 4 4 O'Herlihy star in this lovely movie producer Francis Ford Coppola filmed in northern California's redwood country. Adapted from Zenna Henderson's science-fiction novel, the gentle tale begins as a new schoolteacher puzzles over an isolated community of stoic parents and students who don't laugh, sing, or play games.

Teacher Melodye's quiet probing into the community's past results in an un And for Saturday Kim Darby Korty's camerawork shouldn't usual revelation. John i AFTERNOON 4:30 p.m. 2 Mike Douglas. (Repeat). A funny premise a Russian submarine ventures too far inland off Cape Cod and gets stranded on a sandbar triggers some wild antics in this amusing comedy. (13) Film Odyssey.

"The Blue Angel." (1930). This is the film that made Marlene Dietrich an international star.
