New York. Sept. 7. The Irregular treni of today's market was chiefly due to the etbaek in shippings and motors at extreme recessions of two to seven points. approximated 25,000 shares.

Shippings were the weak feature of the early stock market, falling two to five points as a result of the reported severe reduction on the ocean rates for government and allied war supplies. New Haven's further decline to the new low record of 24 also caused additional unsettle mcnt, other rails receding from Jarge tractions to a point. United States Steel opened unchanged at 108, but immediately fell to 100 5s. Other Industrials and equipments were correspondingly havy and General Motors added six points to yesterday's los of five. Forenoon trading was marked by a succession of confusing rallies and fresh declines, the bears again devoting their attention to the more speculative issues.

Shippings, steels and a few other equipments recovered one to three points and New Haven rose to 25 34, but metals and various spaciaities displayed reactionary tendencies. Crucible Steel led to the general recovery of the second hour and United States Steel regained virtually all its declines. Liberty bonds were quoted at $99. 86. N.

The Chicago Brewers' association, the Chicago Retail Liquor Dealers' association and several kindred organizations made known today that they will soon begin an active campaign to prohibit dancing, skating and vaudeville entertainment in any Chicago cafe where liquor is sold. The move for this divorcement will lake the form of an ordinance to be presented to the city council at its first meeting, it is said. The only form of amusement favored under the liquor dealer plan is ban! concerts in places wh'ch beat 6'J3 persons cr more. "We have kiad our own men invosti sating cabarets and ani; halls in tho city," asserted Vvm. presidt nt of the Brewers and we have deciUtd to 'clean nous.

The abuse of license and privilege demands a separation of the sale of liquor and of amusements such as are now prevalent in cafas. Ninety five percent of the men in the saloon business in the city are supporting the move." Mr. Lenger predicted that with Avhisky under" the ban by congressional action by Nov. 1 of this year, 1500 of the city's TOOOsaloon licenses would lapse.
