'Age finally caught up' "We've invested a lot of money on these bridges," said George Zandala-sini, deputy director for engineering management for the Department of Transportation. "Age has finally caught up with many of these bridges. In the future, we will be bringing additional maintenance staff to keep maintenance on(going). The bill for the three bridges connecting Brooklyn to Manhattan across the East River will total more than $500 million when the job finally is completed. The estimate for construction cost for the Brooklyn Bridge is the Manhattan Bridge will be revitalized at a cost of $134,800,000, and the bill for the Williamsburg Bridge is $237,900,000.

Reconstruction of the Brooklyn Bridge is almost complete. The work included reconstruction of the Brooklyn Tower pier protection and the installation of gantry signs on the bridge approaches.
