The pilot was shot down December 5, 1952, and taken prisoner by the Communists while serving with the United States Air Force in Korea.

The action took place northeast of Sinuiju in North Korea, not far from the Yalu River boundary with Manchuria. The department said no one saw his plane or parachute land. However, subsequent reports from repatriated prisoners-of-war indicated that he had been taken prisoner and had been seen in a prisoner-ofwar camp. He was not repatriated in the main exchange of prisoners-ofwar which took place in September, 1953, and efforts were later made without success 10 determine if he was being held by the Communists. During the Geneva conference the Canadian delegation approached the Chinese Communist delegation informally in an effort to obtain information about him.

As a result of these discussions, the Canadian delegation was informed June: 17 that he is "alive and well" and that he will be released. The department said it has not yet received word on the exact date of the release. L. G.
