Design chances to score with fumbles. On four other occasions they approached pay-dirt only to be thwarted by pass interceptions. The Yellowjackets confidently waited for a break, and when it came, promptly turned it into points in a style befitting the champions of the Tri-County league. Les Morgan and Emmett Reed packed the ball, but their team mates swept everything before them once they scented victory. INTERCEPTS PASS San Bernardino received the kickoff and marched down the field, looking like winners until Reed snagged Jack Cooley's pass on the Colton 13.

The Cards came right back, traveling 24 yards to the Colton 27 where a fumble stopped the threat Still failing to realize that tradition was against them, the Cardinals again penetrated deep into Colton territory only to lose the ball again on a fumble. The Yellowjackets finally decided to do something about the situation, and when the Cards bobbled again, thta time inside their own 20-yard line, the visitors crossed the goal line In four plays. STOPS THREAT A few minutes later, Reed stopped ens San Bernardino threat by intercepting a pass in midfield and then paved the way for the second score by taking another pass away from a Cardinal end on the San Bernardino 35. Morgan picked up six yards, and then Reed sprinted the remaining 29 yards for six more points. Possessing the ball most of the game, the Cards ran up a total of 12 first downs to Colton's five.

They were also penalized 30 yards to the Yellowjackets' 15. Colton completed only one out of six passes but intercepted four of the 11 aerial attempts made by the losers, of which three clicked. REACH COLTON 29 A 15-yard runback of the opening kickoff heralded the Cards' first drive. Jazzy Watson cut through tackle for five, and Paul Taylor added four off tackle. Taylor faked a punt and Watson slipped through guard to a first down on the San Bernardino 45.

Alternating slashes through the line, Watson and Taylor carried the ball to the Colton 29, popped up to take Cooley's pass on the 13 and end the threat. Taking the ball on their own 39, the Cards started back and this time reached the 2V following a 16-yard jaunt through center by Taylor on a fake plunt play. Severson fumbled on the next play, and Hal Alvarado recovered on the 35. STRIGLE NABS PASS Starting all over again, San Bernardino this time gained the Colton 37 when Carl Strigle took Taylor's pass and lateraled to Watson for 10 yards after several end sweeps by Watson. The ball got away from Taylor, however, and Bob Jaime pounced on it on the Colton 45.

In the third quarter, a 35-yard punt by Reed put the ball on the San Bernardino 22. Buzz Brown fumbled as he started into the line on the first play, and Saunders recovered on the 18. Morgan cut back to the 14 and then made a first down on the eight. Ignoring an injured ankle, he shadowed his interference through the left side of the line to cross the goal line standing. Reed hit center for the extra point RECOVER FUMBLE Recovering one of their own fumbles in midfield, the Cards began another drive late in the third period.

After moving into Colton territory, Taylor lofted a pass that just grazed Kenny Smith's finger to fall into Reed's arms. Reed galloped down the sideline to the San Bernardino 35. Morgan went through left tackle for six yards. A big hole opened in the center of the line on the next play, and Reed stepped through, reversed his field and felj over the goal line. He also place-kicked the conversion.
