-4 4Dl 8 THE SUNDAY RECORD CALL, "JULY 1969 Gallant Bloom Scores At Morimou th I Win, Place And Show Don Zamarelli Sorority Stakes, a six-furlong spin for 2-year-old distaffers. Among the leading eligibles for the fixture is Red Tree Farm's unbeaten 2-0 Forbidden Lass, property of John Brunetti of Hackensack. Box The Compass, Ridin' Puddin Jack prevailed by a neck over Sports Final for a $43.30 payoff that completed an 8-7, $211.60 double. Another son of Carry Back's Busy Bob-O, a promising candidate for the $100,000 Sapling here closing day, Aug. 7, ran to a front-running score in the fourth under Charley Balta-zar.

It was Baltazar's second winner, and the meet's leading reinsman added another aboard the favored Dots Imp, giving him 46 for the meeting. The big item here this week is Saturday's $100,000 Saratoga Aug. 9. at the classical IVi miles. The Oaks was contested over l1" miles, and Gallant Bloom turned it into a shambles once Braulio Baeza asked for her run going to the last turn.

Process Shot had set the pace to that point, but succumbed readily when Gallant Bloom challenged. In the run to the wire, Baeza was looking around for challenges. None developed, however, although Hail To Patsy, recently sold for $200,000, finished well for the place by three lengths over Around The Horn. Hail To Patsy had gone off as second choice off her strong races behind Shuvee in the New York's Triple Crown for fillies. But she was less a match for Gallant Bloom than she was for Shuvee.

Finest Jade and Que Inter-sante were heavily supported in the daily double races. However, only the former succeeded, winning easily at even money. Que Intersante, off at 4-5, was used in a pace duel and wound up third to-Puddin' Jack, who finished, with the same flurry that was characteristic of his sire, Carry Back. By DON ZAMARELLI Turf Editor OCEANPORT Kong Ranch's Gallant Bloom bloomed again at Monmouth Park Saturday much to the delight of 27,198 fans. Favored at 7-5 ($4.80) the 3-year-old filly responded with ridiculously easy 12-length victory over a Hail To Patsy In the prestigious Monmouth Oaks.

It was Gallant Bloom's fourth success three of them stakes in as many starts this year, and sets up an early showdown with division leader Shuvee in the Alabama at Aqueduct Entries Nodouble Gets Wire-To-Wire Triumph In Brooklyn 'Cap Jersey Bounce For The Jumpers OCEANPORT What a year. We land on the moon, the Mets become winners and New Jersey's pari-mutuel set are rid of the jumpers almost. The last-named is happening right here on the Jersey shore at dear old Monmouth Park, and that in itself is the biggest jolt of all for supporters few as they may be of hurdle racing. This house of chance was once the state's leading exponent of the infield sport. No more, however.

That's a thing of the past. Right now the leapers are near extinction here. Oh, they're in the midst of their annual season at Monmouth, but you could hard'y call seven races a "season." That's what they've been cut to, and unless they behave, they'll be out entirely. It's their own fault, too, and tor several reasons most of them connected with the tote. To be quite frank, jump racing has never caught the fancy of the wagering gentry which is why its yearly circuit at the big horse parks is limited to the northeast.

They're probably living on borrowed time in these parts, too, for all indications point to an abolishment of the sport of survival? once the jumpers' old guard who presently have a say in the operation of several major betting marts cease to exist Jump races are the weakest attraction almost without FIRST RACE Post 1:30 P. The Jumper Just left town." fail. Joe Fan has lost confidence in the game simply because of the so-called "incidents" which always have plagued the racing. Joe would rather risk his hard-earned on horses who will at least finish what they start. Too many leapers don't because they're poorly schooled, which is an indictment of the whole operation. In recent years, too, management has been disturbed by the jumpers continued failure to come up with full fields or even fill ONE race a day.

This nonsense reached the heights last year when all of three horses showed for Monmouth's jump finale the Mid-Summer Hurdle 'cap. That brought finis to what had been a lengthy jump season here, and prompted one track official to observe, "We give these people valuable stall space, and this is how they show their appreciation. We'll have to do something about them." Monmouth did. What are you waiting for, New York? HandicappeYs' Row Easy, Ribula, Royal Crisis, Sadie and Rapid Link, all stakes winners, also figure strongly for the Sorority. Royal Crisis is also Jersey-owned, his owner being soft drink magnate Anthony Im-besi of Estelle Manor.

Yonkers Entries Bluefish Big, But Wow The Inflation which worries so many politicians Is having its effect on the boating consumer, but it doesn't seem to worry him too much. Neither does the so-called "Credit Crunch." At least that has been the experience of Ed Hird at Cruiser Sales In Paramus, John Coval at Covals in Hacken-lack, and Bob Wilson at Wilson's Marineland in Fort Lee. Inflation has come in the form of higher prices for both motors and boats. Motors, to the best of Hird's recollection had gone up last fall and then again at the time of the boat shows. The general feeling was boats had gone up about five per cent on average.

While some manufacturers did not raise prices this year, others felt it necessary after years of holding the line to charge more. As for the credit crunch, all said it had had no effect on their financing business. Hird, whose company has a wider price range than the others, said Cruiser Sales was writing more business and had more borrowing than in past years. However, he added, most pay cash or borrow their money elsewhere. Since the company carries boats up to the $40,000 price range, it figures that most of the buyers of larger craft are going to finance at least part of the cost either at the dealer or at a bank.

Unlike many of the dealers along the Jersey shore, there is no particular season for the sale of bigger boats in this area. Thus, the sale of these boats has continued right through the crunch. While Coval said he had found no increase in numbers of sales, what Is being sold is bigger. And, he added, there was an increase in the number of inboard-outboards, which are more expensive. Wilson said the 16 to 18-footer with an outboard motor was his biggest seller.

He perfectly summed up the feeling of all three concerning the supposed tightness of money with the statement: "If they (the consumers) want a boat, they're going to get it." It seems to some extent the public is putting its leisure time activities in the No. 1 priority spot. Given a choice between a boat or some other equipment that is desired and items of everyday existence, the boat, skis, etc. will be bought. Hennessey Grand Prix July 30 The ocean racers will be in this vicinity July 30 when the Hennessey Grand Prix is run over a 222.5 statutemile course.

The launching site will be the Richmond Marina in Edge-water, and the first turn mark will be the bell buoy east of Manasquan Inlet off Point Pleasant Beach. The course then goes in an easterly direction about 70 miles over open water to Shinnecock Inlet on Long Island. The final leg is back to the starting mark. The race has captured the fancy of the Greater Point Pleasant Area Chamber of Commerce, which will award a special trophy to the first boat around the bell buoy. Among the favorites is a New Yorker and two former residents of the Big City.

Bill Wishnick set a world record of 70.2 miles per hour in winning Sam Griffith Memorial Race in Florida and rates as the man to beat. Don Aronow, a former world champion, and Pete Rittmaster are former New Yorkers. Dick Bertram, who like Aronow held the world title, is also In the race. First prize was a five-day fishing tour of Wyoming. Peter Grossman of Engle-wood placed among the top 25.

Antipollution battles continue to be fought with more words than action. For 1969 Congress authorized spending $700 million for pollution abatement, but only $214 million was appropriated. Congress authorized $1 billion for 1970, but the Nixon administration has followed its predecessor by asking for only $214 million. It appears our economic development win continue to produce pollution faster than it can be cleaned up the effluent of influence. Outdoors Jim Stabile A.E.

(Who Cabled, Deer Tl Alb Htlan aanflftwa. While most fisherman who switch-hit between freshwater and salt are scoring big with bluefish, a Parsippany man tried the fresh waters of Packanack Lake and caught the biggest Northern Pike reported this season in New Jersey. Dick Beber used a Rebel plug to catch a 36-inch, 12-pound 13-mrnce northern. Sev-e a 1 eight-pounders have been caught in North Jersey, but until Dick landed the big one I didn't even know there were northerns in Packanack Lake. He weighed it in at the Ledgewood Outdoorsman on Route 46 in Morris County.

Dedicated trout fisherman haven't abandoned their favorite subject during midsummer. A group will meet Thursday at 8 p.m. in Sparta to form New Jersey's first chapter of Trout Unlimited. For information you may call Bob Veydovec at 729-3747. Chapters In 21 States Trout Unlimited is a nationwide, nonprofit conservation group committed to preserving trout, salmon and steelhead fishing through better fisheries management, protection and habitat improvement.

It has local chapters in at least 24 states. Backers of the proposed chapter say they long have been unhappy with the deteriorating quality of the state's northwest trout waters and angling conditions and now they want to do something about it. Efforts to turn what we have known as the sportsmen's show back into a sportsmen's show are pro- gressing. Last year's show trrned off many outdoorsmen who went to the Coliseum and found plenty of pitchmen and few of the features they wanted.
