Then YourAgeShows By BOB THOMAS AP Movie-Television Writer HOLLYWOOD (AP' "The Kid" is 50. There is still a touch of boy ishness in his face, though his head is slick as a casaba -caused partly by age, partly shaved for a- television series.

His outlook is youthful as ever. Jackie Coogan at the half- century mark is a thoroughly alive legend. At 16 months he made his movie debut in a film starring Bryant Washburn in Chicago. At 2 he toddled onstage during his father's vaudeville act and so convulsed the au- dience'that he became part of he act. At 4 He was playing in the loogan act in Los Angeles when Charlie Chaplin happened to be in the audience.

Jackie seemed to be just the right boy for a movie the comedian had planning, "The Kid." Jackie's face, cap askew, furtively searching for. the cop on the beat, became famous the world over. On a day off from playing Uncle Fester in "The Addams Family" television series, Jackie relaxed in his modest North Hollywood home and talked about his birthday this week and other matters. "I didn't have a party or anything like that," he said. "I dropped by CBS -to- chat with Red Skelton.

Then I came home and had a- quiet dinner with my wife and, daughter, who is 11. My wife cooked a goose I hac shot at the opening of duck season, and we had a cake." Jackie was the first greal child star of films, and he set the pattern for those to follow. "We pioneered the commercial tieup market," he recalled. "At one time my name was on 50 or 60 different items, from dolls to pencil boxes. Peck and Peck paid us $100,000 per year to put out a Jackie Coogan line of clothes.

Millions and millions of caps were sold." Crenna Knows His Politics HOLLYWOOD (AP) Only Dick Crenna knows how Dick Crenna will vote, on Election Day next Tuesday. But it's been tough keeping it a secret. "It's one of the hazards of playing a legislator on television during, a political campaign," says Crenna. Dick plays Slaltery, a legislator in a mythical state, on "Slattery's People." "You name it, and I've been asked it," says Dick, "Who do I like for president, what I think about extremism, what's my position on civil rights. "I've learned to talk just like a politician and give a politician's answer." The Crenna all-purpose answer: now I've studied the matter and I see your point of view and I knew that in such a serious situation there are always two sides to the problem and I'm going to give it further consideration before I'come to a final The answer almost always works except with the television critic.

"We've had only two critics who don't like the show," says Dick. "And one of them has been knocking us almost weekly. But he doesn't criticize the acting, he takes shots at our political stands." AREA RADIO WSSV--1240 A. M. (MutumD 4gf A M.
