Bv WILLIAM DOBBINS and MAUREEN O'DONNELL (Staff Writers) Hackcnsack-The jury failed to reach a decision last night in the first-degree murder trial of Dennis McCue, 19, of Oakland, who is accused of stabbing Raymond Miller, 18, of Pater-son on October 8. McCue was continued on $1,500 bail pending a new trial. After 6 hours of fruitless deliberation, Bergen County Court Judge Arthur J.

O'Dea received a note from the Jury stating it could not reach a decision. Judge O'Dea then dismissed the Jury. The jury started deliberating at 1 P. M. shortly after hearing brief testimony from Mr.

and Mrs. Edward McCue, Dennis's parents, who both related the approximate time their son left and returned home the night of the murder. Lucianna spent 45 minutes in his summation to the jury. The love-trlangle development came to light yesterday when details of the indictment, handed up Wednesday by a Passaic County Grand Jury, were made public.

Kavanaugh, a good-looking 24-year-old newspaper delivery-man, had been dating Miss Geraldine Malick for about 6 months prior to his wife's murder, according to the indictment. It charges that Kavanaugh dated Miss Malick at diverse times and places and that when their dating ended March 4, only 9 days before his missing wife's body was found in a gully, he was still in love with Miss Malick. Help Narcotic Centers Gain Acceptance, Governor Asks (Special to The Record) New York Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller was on record today with an appeal to New York State residents to accept centers for rehabilitation of narcotics addicts. His appeal was made while a court aide who helped in establishment of such a center was calling for a State policy of hard-nosed, realistic, down-to-earth treatment of addicts. Speaking at the annual Searchlight Dinner of the Citizens Union, the Governor gave this estimate of people's rection to rehabilitation centers: "They say, 'Fine, take care of them, but don't do it in our neighborhood, we don't want them "They'd rather leave them on the street mugging, robbing, stealing, and murdering than have them in a home where they can be properly cared for in their own con.munity." Concerning Daytop Lodge, the experiment on Staten Island for treatment of addicts in a home atmosphere, the Governor said that funds to aid Daytop turned over to the City by the State 2 years ago but that local residents nearby raised such opposition that the City withheld the money.

REALISM STRESSED Meanwhile, Chief Probation Officer Joseph A. Shelly, a former addict who pioneered in setting up Daytop, appeared before the New York State Narcotics Addiction Control Commission with a plea that the Commission not accredit agencies which do not apply realistic policies in dealing with, addicts. "We believe that a conventional approach to the addict, which considers him a poor, sick, Don't bi misled when buying your children's Christmas bike Come in ond let one of Wilson'i experts of up to 45 yeors experience show you that, for just a few extra dollars, you can buy anyone of our Famous Bicycles built by Schwinn. Richard and Judith Cavanagh, no relation, downstairs neighbors of the Kavanaughs at 90 Hazel Street, were charged with false swearing. They are accused of lying to police about events prior to Mrs. Kavanaugh's death.

PUBLISHER'S SON Another indictment charges Harold Matzner, 33, son of the publisher of Matzner Publications Inc. of Wayne, with conspiring to obstruct justice, allegedly threatening to fire an employee of the firm if he testified to the prosecution about the slaying. Kavanaugh and Matzner, ac- neurotic, defenseless victim of circumstances over which he has no control, is not helpful in rehabilitating the addict," Shelly said. He added that treatment should be based on what addicts themselves recommend. Shelly was one of 15 witnesses to appear on the second day of public hearings by the Commission which is seeking to set standards for private and public agencies that will take part in the Statewide $81-million program that goes into effect next April 1.
