P. 40 amateur prizes already on The tournament, slated for the White Beeches Golf and Country Club October 28 and 29, will offer at least four trophies in addition to cash prizes for pros and merchandise for the amateurs. Top prize on the list is the George Jacobus Memorial Trophy, which will be awarded to the low 36-hole total pro or amateur.

The trophy is in memory of the late Ridgewood Country Club professional, who served his club for 52 years and was one of the prime forces in promoting golf to the prominent position it enjoys today. Jacobus served as National P. G. A. president for 5 years, during that organization's hardest times, and built the tour into what it is from a nominal position.

The low amateur in the tournament will receive the Walter H. Jones Trophy, donated by the former State Senator and current Bergen County Republican Chairman. Jones presented the huge trophy to Northwood Golf Club's Walt Zembriski last year at the tourney's inaugural. Next on the long line of awards is the Sid Allen Trophy, donated by the Englewood Cliffs restaurateur, which the low net amateur score earns. The fourth trophy currently proposed by the committee will go to the club whose four mem-bers shoot the low aggregate 36- H-ln Wanted Male 33 F.D.

The nose section of Breed-love's car caved in and the top body panel was wrinkled by wind pressure yesterday as the 28 year-old hot-rodder roared across the Flats at better than 500 miles per hour.

The mishap postponed until at least tomorrow Breedlove's bid to regain the land speed record he has held three times. Arfons is back for his second attempt this year to break the record, set last year at 536.71 m. p. h. by his stepbrother, Art.

The Wingfoot Express now has room for 25 JATO rockets, which are normally to aid aircraft on takeoff. Racks for five more rockets on each side of the auto have been added since Arfons first tried out the car last month. Driver Bobby Tatroe, 28, of Grand Rapids, discovered that the thrust of 15 rockets, the car's original capacity, would not push it past 500 m. p. h.

The 25 rockets, each with pounds thrust, could if fired simultaneously propel the Wingfoot Express at speeds approaching the speed of sound, Arfons says. That would be 720-750 m. p. h. on the western Utah track.

For today's runs he planned to test only the 10 sidemount rockets. Although he has the track booked until Sunday, Breedlove gave Arfons the go-ahead for his test runs. Arfons has the track reserved for the week starting Sunday. The record changed hands five times among the Arfons brothers, and Breedlove in 1964 when speeds of pure jet or rocket powered cars were recognized by the International Automobile Federation. Donald Campbell of England holds the wheel-driven auto land speed record, 403.1 m.

Included on the agenda will be reports on television prospects for this year's championship and next year's regular schedule, and a review of other United States and Canadian cities in which there has been interest shown in Continental League franchises. "But it seems that there is a need to enforce rules, particularly in soccer where good players are sought by outside leagues." This is not the first time that Woods has suspended an F. D. Boozer, a 6-8 cornerman, who averaged 14.2 for New York last year, will join the Lakers in San Francisco for tonight's opener against the Warriors. Coach Harry Gallatin believes that Reed, who at the moment is ailing, can handle Bill Russell of Boston and Wilt Chamberlain of Philadelphia. Gallatin is also optimistic about the strong backcourt that the Knicks will have with Barnett playing with Howie Ko-mives, Em Bryant, and Johnny Egan.

That would allow Art Key-man to play the frontcourt at times alonog with Tom Gola. The Knick coach is about as optimistic as "league president Walter Kennedy. The league prexy is looking for one of the best competitive seasons ever. Kennedy, citing off-season trades and the addition of top college players through the draft, said "The second-division clubs have been greatly strengthened. Some of the finest first-year-men in history will vigorously compete for Rookie of the Year honors." Tops among the rookie crop are U.

Tom, and Bill Buntin of Michigan, at Detroit. Cincinnati, however, will make its almost annual run at Boston in the Eastern Division without any new help, but they will have Oscar Robertson, who finally signed after a long contract hassle.

The Royals will have to open without a 100 percent Wayne Embody though. He's suffering from a painful callus on his left foot and Coach Jack McMahon doesn't expect to use him much against St. Louis in the opener. Tonight's other opener has Western Division champ Los Angeles at San Francisco. Buckpasscr, the leading 2-year-old colt in the nation, meets his filly counterpart, Priceless Gem, for the second time in the mile Champagne which will gross over $200,000. The latter upset Buckpasser in the Futurity by Vilength, and is favored to repeat although the Champagne distance is the longest cither has raced this season.

Priceless Gem. developed by Hirsch Jacobs, the turf's win-ningest trainer, confirmed her Futurity form by beating horses of her own ice and sex in the Frizette under a hand ride for her fifth consecutive win after running fourth in her debut.
