G. L. Winship, Mrs, Smith had just passed her eighty-ninth birthday. She had been an unusually active, energetic woman, always cheerful, her mind clear to the last; aud for many years she was a consistent and devoted member of the Methodist church. The funeral service was Saturday afternoon.

The venerable James Boyce, aged eighty-two years, has just received the S12 bounty for killing a oue hundred seventy-five pound bear on May 13. Mr. Boyce had seen bear tracks and set his trap. The next morning he took his gun and, alone, weut to see the trap where he found the bear caught by one foot, really as "cross as a bear," and ready for a fight. Mr.

Boyce, although very feeble, sent a bullet into its brain, killing it instantly. This makes the eighth bear that Mr. Boyce has killed. He says there is another very large bear around that he is trying to get. We hope he will succeed.

John Kelty, who bad his leg taken off at the knee at the Mary Fletcher hospital two weeks ago, was under the necessity of having it amputated nearer the body last Saturday as gangrene had appeared above the knee. Much sympathy is felt for Mr. Kelty. His son-in-law, E. J.

Long, went to Burlington to stay with him a few days. Horace A. Mehuron, aged sixty-seven years, who for many years has been a respected citizen of this town, died at his home on Wednesday, May 21, after an illness of one week with pneumonia. The funeral was largely attended, Rev. J.
