1 Lone Ranch House of John Stewart Robbed Guns Found Missing REDLANDS, Jan. 9. Ranch house of John Stewart, 'just north of Men-tone, was robbed yesterday afternoon, presumably by hoboes who got away with a large amount of loot. Search for the miscreants today by Constable J. A.

Rivera of Redlands failed to locate the guilty parties. Mr. Stewart lives alone on his goat ranch, which is a bout a mile north of Mentonp anrt ff nt av frvnioH yesterday afternoon wnlte be was out with his stock the crime was com mitted. Entrance to the house, which I is rather a frail affair, was gained by I pulling off a portion of one side of the structure. Premises were thoroughly ransacked and everything of value that could be carried off was made away with.

Among the articles missing is a double i barrelled shotgun; a' kodak, Smith Wesson revolver silver brooch, gold a stickpin, surveyor's level, binocular field glass and about $15 worth of groceries. Constable Rivera followed the trail of the thieves for some distance, locating the -robbers camp, where they had cooked the food. It is in the roughest part of The Wash and over a mile northwest of the Stewart ranch. The robbers probably crossed the Santa Ana on the Santa Fe bridge and continued their jCurney in that direction. Another robbery in the Mentone district occurred first of the week when the shack of Joe Rak on the Marlette ranch, was entered.

Razor and a six-shooter were stolen at this place. Hoboes are believed responsible. ATTORNEY'S SAFE OPENED BY. THIEF McNabb's Office Is Broken Into; Robber Foiled by Appearance of Katz Forcing the office dor and working the combination of the safe with skilled fingers, a thief yesterday morning at 9 o'clock made an unsuccessful attempt at burglary in the offices of Attorneys McNabb and Hodge in the Katz building. The man was discovered by M.

D. Katz, one of the owners of the building, while in the lawyers' offices but escaped before the police could be called. Katz discovered the broken lock oni the door of the suite as he was making a morning inspection of the building. The thief evidently heard Katp's approach down the hall for he met him in the front office as Katz entered the door. Asked what he was doing in the office, the man made an excuse that he would return in a minute and hastened down the hall and down the! stalrs.

Katz follow6d and saw the man turn down the alley south of the court house. The police were notified and given a description of the man, but up until a late hour last night he had not been apprehended. Thief Opens Safe After forcing the front door of the suite of offices the man, woh is described as being fairly well dressed and about 25 years of age, entered the rear office, where tbe safe is located and worked the day combination. Several tin boxes containing papers were broken open but thetr contents untouched. Attorney McNabb expressed the opinion last night that the man was looking only for money, which he did not find, as the attorneys use the safe only to contain valuable pa- pers and records, Attempt Other Entrance Officers believe that the man is the same one who some time Saturday night or Sunday morning attempted to gain entrance to the offices of Attorney Swing and Wilson in tbe Garner block.

Court and streets. He was evidently frightened away before he could break the lock as the door had not been completely forced when Attorney Swing went to his office yesterday morning.
