infreplil unit files bank rapt cy plan fi FOUNTAIN JA Of FLAVORS The Intrepid, a 900-foot-long carrier berthed at 46th St and the Hudson River on Manhattan's West Side, has operated as a sea, air and space museum since 1982. The Intrepid was commissioned in 1943 and was based in the Pacific in World War II. The foundation, a not-for-profit corporation, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy law protection in July 1985, listing assets of $16.5 million and debts of $28.4 million. Intrepid officials cited poor attendance caused by bad weather as the reason for their money problems. "We could not service the gross revenue bonds," said its executive director, Wayne Schmidt "We have been operating in the black except for the bonds since we opened in August 1982." The financially troubled foundation that operates the aircraft carrier Intrepid as a museum has filed its plan for reorganization under bankruptcy law.

Under the plan, which has yet to be approved by Bankruptcy Court Judge Tina L. Brozman, the Intrepid Museum Foundation would pay bondholders 23 of their claims of about $15.2 million. Filed last week, the plan also provided for paying general unsecured creditors 13Vfe of their $1.4 million claims. Scott Steinberg, a lawyer representing the foundation, said Monday that its chairman and founder, Zachary Fisher, is "waiving substantial amounts in bonds owed him," as well as funding cash payment to other creditors.
