The setback was thefirstregu- J-ir season loss lor the Blue Dons in nine games and the first time Madonna has been held scoreless in 10 games. Led by the scrambling ofquar- terback Kick Lukaeena, the double A Ohio representatives completely dominated the affair, played at Weir High Stadium. A sterling defense" and offensive puncn nighlighted by a beautiful 65-yard dash by fullback Bill Fisher spearheaded Toronto's efforts.

Not since Thanksgiving Day 19G2 when the Lions dumped Starr 12 times lias the veteran quarterback been handled so roughly as he was Sunday when the Lions made Schmidt's head coaching" debut a success by holding the Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers to a stunning 17-17 tie. It was an amazing performance by the Lions who were two touchdown undergos. They kicked off the 1907 National season in intercepting four Starr passes--an incredible total since Starr had just three intercepted all last season. It was a defensive display typical of the days wtien Schmidt was the Lions' middle linebacker and directed the Detroit defense that turned in many notable performances-- Lhe most memorable being the 1962 massacre, of the Packers with a pass interception on the irst play of the second half ave Dallas a 21-7 lead and the Cowboys hung on for Die victory, Tom Woodeshick scored the final two touchdowns on runs of 40 and one yards as the Eagles beat the Redskins, Rookie John Love ran the opening kickoff back 96 yards before the Eagles rallied.
