CM 8 2 Clear Ron aides in Portman flap There is no evidence that the White House exerted undue political pressure to raze two Broadway theaters for construction of the Portman Hotel project in Times Square, a Manhattan Federal Court judge ruled yesterday. Judge Kevin Duffy extended until Monday the ban on demolishing the Helen Hayes and Morosco theaters to allow time for the Natural Resources Defense Council to appeal his decision. Duffy said that Interior Secretary James Watt and former White House aide Lyn Nofziger did not exert undue pressure on the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation to block efforts to save the two theaters.
