Wednesday Afternoon, January 12. 1977 High-Volume Users Curtailed First Sfofe Residents Protected From Gas Cuts CHARLESTON (UPI) West Virginia residents have a double wall of protection between their homes and a cutback in natural gas supplies. Small industrial users of gas, then commercial users would a a i a a residential users.

A a i a a spokesman says that, so far, the current curtailment policy in West Virginia does not even include small industrial users. High volume users of industrial gas in West Virginia have been curtailed by Columbia Gas. a a a Clarksburg, and Equitable Gas of Pittsburgh. "I foresee any tailments of gas to our residential customers, although we dp ask them to conserve gas on their own by keeping their thermostats at 67 degrees," said Kenneth Smith, Charleston district manager for Columbia Gas of West Virginia. "In a our West Virginia curtailment policy, we haven't gotten into small in- dustrial users at a Smith added.

If further curtailments become necessary, Smith said, small industrial users and then commercial users would be cut back before residential users affected. categories are affected depends on what happens during the next three weeks. The power failures, blamed on ice weighing down wires and shorting them together, hit the area at 6:20 p.m. Power was restored to most areas between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m. today, according to Line and Station. Supervisor Kyle Ellison Sr.

The new peak demand, recorded for the hour ending 10 a.m., broke the old record of 4,193.000 kilowatts established Dec. 2L according to an APCO spokesman. APCO's executive vice president, John W. Vaughan, pointed out that the peak was attained when the coal industry demand was less and many school systems and industries were shut down.
