TVKey Mailbag Weekly i 'h elevision Guide wrt' ft tlrl'l mrnnn Bom Wit --X ACTOR and songwriter, Sidney Miller is director of the "Damon Hunyon Theater." Question. Could you please tell me if Lee Aaker, who plays Lieutenant Rip Masters on Rin Tin Tin, sang "The White Buffalo" song on that show? B. Norwood, N. J- Has "The White Buffalo" song been recorded, and when will it be on sale? P. Springfield Gardens, N.

Y. Answer. We've received quite a bit of mail concerning "The White Buffalo" and so we'll try to answer all questions at once. James Brown, another member of the cast, not only did the solo vocal of "White himself, but also via multiple track recording served as the voices for the background chorus. He's recorded the tune on the M.

G. M. label, and the disc should be in local shops soon. Theie's also a record of it by Bill "Davy Crockett" Hayes. Lee Aaker had nothing to do with it.

Question. Could you tell me if the fellow named Rocky-' who appears with Martha Raye is the champion Rocky or not? L. G. Waco, Texas. Answer.

Rocky Graztano, who plays Martha Ray's goom-bah, was at one time world middleweight champ, but retired from the ring. Don't get him confused, though, with Rocky Marciano, the heavyweight titleholder. 4 Question. Who was the girl who played the part of Joyce on Playhouse of Stars, October 21? C. Teaneck, N.

J. Answer. Phyllis Avery was Joyce in the comedy, "The Girl Who Scared Men Off." Question. Did Charles Boyer sing in the original version of Or am I confusing this with Tony Martin in L. Jamaica, New York.

Answer. "Casbah," with Tony Martin, was a musical remake of "Algiers." Charles Boyer did not sing in the original film. Both pictures, incidentally, have been shown on television. Question. I would be very happy if you would answer a question for me.

songwriter Miller and the youngest Miller comic to work with Joe Penner way back when. You saw him last year frolicking with Donald O'Connor and you've seem his name as writer on the credit lists of the Colgate Comedy Hour for four years. In short, Sidney Miller is a real pro. "I love to act," he says. "I love to write and I love to direct.

I'm lucky. I've tasted 'em all but I can't honestly tell you which I like to do the best." Sidney went on to talk about the Damon Runyon series. He was pretty happy because he had filmed his last show in two days and come in 1 hour and 35 minutes ahead of schedule. The producer was elated: "Think of the money you saved, Sid!" (The producer has yet to come up with a really good show, incidentally.) "Do we have problems?" asked Sid. "Let me tell you.

We had a story, 'Good Luck with a role for an 11-year-old German boy. The day before shooting we found the boy we wanted was unavailable. By 6:30 that night we had interviewed a couple of possibilities. The next-to-last boy had a fair German accent and he looked like he was the one. The casting director put his head in and said there was one left and he sent in a Barry Fromer.

Barry had sad eyes, puffed-out cheeks, blonde hair. "'How do you he said in a perfect German accent. We leaned forward. 'What did you 'How do you do. I'm very happy to make your acquaintance.

I like the Damon Runyon series so much and I'd be honored to play in "The German was flawless," Miller added. "It turned out he had worked on the Donald O'Connor show with me, and when he heard about the part he came running. The casting director tipped him off and he walked in ad libbing a German accent like crazy. Remember him Barry Fromer." Miller feels the Runyon scries is Improving, though not because he is one of the directors. "The We're trying to hit the happy medium.

I'd say it has been the most trial-by-error series going. Miller wanted to talk about the actors on the show is getting tempered. The writing is improving. It's even getting so now, everybody's not talking alike." Runyon is easier to read than visualize and this problem Miller constantly has to fight. "Also not every actor or actress can play Runyon," Miller continued.

"It takes a certain talent for acquiring the rhythm and accent and some find it very difficult. "Another thing, you can become too Runyonese, or go the other way and it will become cartoony. Ik. 8:00 P. M.
