Vanderheiden Is Extended Courtesy During Her Visit Here Mrs. J. H. Vanderheiden, who arrived Sunday from Siloam Springs, to join Mr. Vanderheiden in visit here, was honored at a sbirthday party in the home of $heir son and daughter-in-law, Mr.

W. R. Lee entertained a group of seven at coffee at her home yesterday afternoon. The table's centerpiece was a blue pottery bowl of dark red roses. The hours were spent reminiscing.

Miss Callie Drees, who spent the last year and nine months at Marblehead, told of her interesting visits throughout the New England states. Five of the seven guests were original members of the "As You Like It" club, which was organized with 12 members about 1901 by Mrs. E. B. Wilson of Jefferson, who for five years was principal of Carroll high school.

The club met once a week to study Shakespeare under Mrs. Wilson's leadership. It was named for one of the bard's plays. Those present yesterday included Helen Beiter, Minnie Anderson, Callie Drees and- Augusta Arts tMrs. J.

C. Heider), who, with the hostess, Aimee Hodge (Mrs. W. R. Lee), were the original five.

The other two, who joined the club later, were Lueretia McAllister and Edith Elliott (Mrs. H. C. Rawhouser). The remainder of the original 12 includes: Carrie Anderson (Mrs.

J. Henry Boettger) of Walsenburg, Mae Thompson (Mrs. W. H. Potthast) of Milford; Ada Thompson (Mrs.

O. W. Gibson) of Denver, Beth Pape (Mrs. Andrew Kirk) of Omaha, and Vivian Motie, who is married and lives in California. The two members deceased are Rose Wilmers and Zenia Wetherill.

Mr. Miller is a brother of Mrs. Bruening and of Mrs. C. P.

Reinhart of Carroll. Those present were Mrs. Reinhart, Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Bruening and family of Wall Lake, Mr.

and Mrs. Frank Vonnahme and family and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Berning of Breda, and Mr. and Mrs.

Norbert Bruening. Mr. Miller and his son returned to Colorado yesterday. Carl Denny and small daughter, Patricia, left Carroll yesterday to join Mr. Denny in making their home in Cedar Rapids, where the family has secured an apartment. Because they had been unable to find living quarters previously, Mrs. Denny and Patricia had been in Carroll about a year. They have been living with the John Schaben family.

Mrs. Denny is the former Harriet Copp. Mr. and Mrs. George Thome and Ira Thome of Sterling, 111., who were overnight guests in the home of Mr.

and Mrs. O. T. Moates, left for Caspian, this morning. Mrs.

Thome is Mr. Moates' cousin. Portion of Street Caves In; Broken Sewer Tile Cause A miniature "cavern" was formed last night at the corner of Fifth and Adams streets. City Engineer Wilbur Judge explained this morning that part of the storm sewer tile had broken, allowing the soil under the street to wash away. No cars or trucks were parked on the spot when it caved in, he said.

Workmen are busy today repairing the break. Phyllis Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Johnson, left Monday night for a three-week visit with her uncle and aunt, Dr. and Mrs.

R. C. Ingraham, in Chicago. She will also visit her grandfather, Dick Johnson, at Crescent City, 111. Mr.

With her light blue dress, the bridesmaid wore white, accessories. Forrest Herron of Winnebago, brother of the bridegroom, was best man.

After the ceremony, the bridal couple was honored at a dinner given by Mr. and Mrs. Herron of Winnebago. For the present, Mr. and Mrs.

Herron are living with the bride's mother. Rita Gross's Wedding Banns Are Published Wedding banns were read the first time Sunday for Rita Gross, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William i Gross of Mount Carmel, and Ar- I nold Meyer, son of Mr. and Mrs.

John Meyer of Breda. Banns were published at Our Lady of Mount Carmel church and St. Bernard's church, Breda. The couple will be married Aug. 27 in the Mount Carmel church.

Mrs. Herron TRYST SLAYING WIFE ON WAY TO STAND Preparing to take the witness stand in defense of her husband, Mrs. Doris Murray, 86. of Chicago, is shown with her attorneys Charles Bellows, center, and Caslmir Waehowski. She told the court that Canadian Army Major John W.

Fletcher attacked her husband, Donald Murray, 41, with a chair, before Murray fatally shot him, last May 27. Murray surprised his wife in Fletcher's hotel room in Chicago. Hubert Knight of Glidden, and Joan Bowman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bowman of Coon Rapids, are delegates from the Coon Rapids high school home economics club to the leadership conference for high school home economics club delegates at Iowa State college, Ames, from Aug. 11 to 11. They are attending with their teacher, Miss Rosemary Garten, and are staying at Welch hall.

Delegates are present from chapters of Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Jung returned Monday from Lake Okoboji, where they were at Crescent Beach lodge over the week-end. Their son, Jewell, and daughter, Darlene, are staying there for the rest of the week.

Jewell is at the lodge and Darlene is a guest nt the cottage of Mr. and Mis. It. Gould of Harlan. Mr.

and Mrs. Joe Determan of Early visited Mrs. Henry Pudonz at St. Anthony hospital and Mr. and Mrs.

Paul Pudenz. yesterday. Mrs. Louis Hannasch, daughter, Mrs. Ernest Hermsen, and her son, Frank, have gone to Muscatine to visit Mrs.

Hannasch's son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. R. T. i Potthoff.
