Everybody else took to land or water for the citywide party. tAt $500 a ticket, VIPs with parking permits rode by limo, celebrities without permits took the train (a special antique subway), and the world converged on Pier 1 in Brooklyn, where special guests, escorted from the street fair by Keystone Kops, took their seats to watch the bridge sound-and-light show and fireworks and dine and dance under the yellow-and-white tent overlooking the water.
