SETTLEMENT The settlement provides for the random selectron of persons who passed the examination tor further processing for appointment to police officer. The further processing, as the notice of examination stated, includes medical, physical and psychological examinations and a background review for character and fitness. The random selection shall take Place as follows: First, a rank-ordered eligible list will be created In accordance with examination scores. The list will take Into account points based on veterans' preference.

Second, all candidates who receive a score equal to or higher than that of the person on the list, after adlustment for veterans' preference, shall be randomly selected, bv EX i in computer. The NYCPD shall not obtain anyone's test score nor will they be able to ask any candidate to tell them hisher score. The agreement further provides that the randomly ordered eligible list shall be completely exhausted except that the list shall expire four years alter its promulgation date. The City anticipates that the list will be completely tsed up within two years. The agreement also provides that the City shall conduct a study of how well the persons appointed from the examination perform on the lob. It is anticipated that this will assist the City in preparing future examinations and in determining whether to use strict rank-ordered selection or some other selection process such as random selection. THE SETTLEMENT HEARING A hearing wilt be hetd by the Court at 10:00 A.M.

on October 2. 1981.
