Randolph said there was between him and the Vice President, gntpfa as impassable as that between and Dives. See Matthew, Luke and John. He declared thai "there were not four men in the senate who thought sufficiently alike to carry on any sys-, tern of opposition to the adminisira-- tion." This we knew before, but we admire the hardy independence that dared, under such circumstances, to proclaim it. Virginia and N. Carolina are (be only states that really have at heart those state rights connected with (te disputed power of making Van Buren pretends zeal for the bb roe cause at present, making five senators in all.

This question is the only one really involving princi-; pie and on this, Virginia Way well be said to stand alone. It is thus manifest that the present violent opposition is unsupported except with a -individuals, by Let who will be president, we shall have the same measures. The struggle is not then for principle; but for office-tor power. Four or five ambitious men, dispersed over the Union wish to be president and they and their friends to accomplish this wish, set to work to overthrow the existing government, by misrepresenting its views and principles. This is the true secret of the present opposition not to enlighten the Tariff not to suppress the making of roads and canals but that Gen.

The cause of the failure ii said to be the return from England of certain draftt drawn by the President or the Bank, protested.

The bills are selling in the vicinity of the Bank at a discount of 50 per cent. Few of foe bills were in cir culation in this quarter, owing probably to the establishment of Banks in this state. Our citizens, we think, reed not be afraid of the bills of our own bauks, and we advise them to retain Vermont bills in preference to any others. Insert this week in our columns an interesting report from the vmmiHo nn Hie Public Lands, on the sub ject of appropriating a portion of the annual sales for the creation of a fund lor me oeu-efit of common schools. The report pus leases much merit as a well written performance, and as combining most of the important facts which have 6 relation to the subject.

We doubt not our readers generally will be highly pleased with the report, and will feel anxious to learn u.e fate of the bill- of this, yet, we can give them no information. For ourselves, we have little expectation of its being acted on the present session. tfatiofial 2iodi Among the rnany documents very obligingly forwarded to us by the Hon. Mr. Wales, is a report of the board of internal improvements upon the subject of a national road from the city of Washington to New-Orleans The board have examined three different they designate as the eastern, middle, and western.

The probable distances are, by the eastern route 1136 miles 106 miles western, 1 140 miles. The total length of bridges on the eastern route will be 6 miles, and 626 yardi on the middle route 5 miles, 1473 yards and on the western route, 3 miles, 953 yards. There will be on the eastern route 35 miles, 586 yards of causeway on (he middle route, 39 miles 35 yards and On the western route 24 miles, 1211 yards. The rise and fall on the different routes do not materially vary the soil on the western route is best adapted to road making the materials about the same on the middle and western, and the price of labor about the same. The board do net expressly decide which route, all things considered, is the preferable one-they, however, incline most to the middle route, as we understand the report.

Adjournment of Congreii. Anoint resolution has been adopted by both Houses, fixing on the 22d inst. for the adjournment of Congress. The members from this state will arrive hoirie about the first of June, having been absent more than six months. The day of adjournment being fixed, we may expect more attention will be paid to bnsiness, and less to tpeethifying.
