tion of oddities ThuiwMf thus fn ishei. a bachelor popped into the world mere lumber, without a possibility of being happy himself, or essentially contributing to the happiness of others. His only usineei is to keep himself quiet He gets up to lie down he lies down to get op. No tender passions to enliven bis waking hours: no agrees-ble reveries diversify his dismal slumbers. If he ever speaks the language of sensibility, he speaks Hon the eicel-lence of some favorite dish, or on the choice liquors with whhh his cellar abounds Un such suj(ds he feelt tbe rapture of a lover.

The pace of a bachelor is soler. He would hurdly mend it to gel out of a storm, tho the storm were lhren deluge. But show him a wmti.n entitled to the ompliramt h.l and he will shuffle ou, as if he ee Iking for a wager His tii'iisiku pr. or his laundress, he can spei lo without reserve but any other the sex whose condition is above hii usetul di-pendant, is his terror. to One of the class our citizens described below requests the insertion of the "character of a bachelor," for the reason, he says, that it is most literally true, as he knows by his own experience. How that may be, we are unable to decide, for having but lately arrived to the anxiously desired age of twenty. one, it is beyond our power to vouch for its truth, still to gratify our shrivelled up friend, whose bachelorship for near half a century qualifies him to deoide, we here insert it, and trust it will occasion more smiles than frowns from our numerous readers whether old or young, married or single. Character of a Bachelor. ti A Bachelor's a sort of whimsical be tot mi iitu iiii.ii ii.iiiiiu ill 1 li i ii i t.
