Bernard Rabin The Board of Estimate, at the urging of Queens officials and civic workers, has adopted a resolution making the old Remsen Cemetery in Forest Hills a city landmark. Queens Borough President Donald Manes said the board's action "brings honor and recognition to the final resting place of Col. Jeromus Remsen, a Revolutionary War hero, and members of his family." The cemetery is located off Metropolitan between Alderton St and Trotting Course Lane.

It was recently cleaned and restored through the efforts of local residents aided by Boy Scout troops and civic organizations in the area. Manes noted that Remsen, a descendant of early Dutch settlers, fought in the French and Indian War as well as the Revolutionary War. He developed a large family farm in the area then known as Newtown but which is now Forest Hills. "He was an early and strong advocate of our nation's independence," Manes said, "and was an early participant in the cause for independence. He led his own contingent in several battles and was truly a' Revolutionary War hero.
