Group spokesman Wilfredo Burgos said that WXTV, a Spanish language UHF station operating on Channel 41, was "a source of great pride to the Hispanic community in Paterson, and we don't want to see it leave." Burgos, a candidate for City Council, organized representatives from several Hispanic groups and the city's Economic Development Authority. They will meet with station officials this week, he said. The station wants to move out of its cramped quarters on Main St.

to a new facility in the Harmon Cove development in the Meadowlands. The new building will also house the station's advertising offices, now in Must Cut Expenses Freda Flood, WXTV operations manager, said the move was necessary to cut expenses. "We couldn't afford to maintain two separate offices any longer," she said. "By moving we'll also be closer to the Spanish communities in Hudson County." The station is seen in more than 120,000 homes in New Jersey, New York and Connecticut. There is one other Spanish language television station in the state, Channel 47, WNJU in Newark.

Burgos said he hoped his group could talk the station out of leaving. If Setting the pace instead of just keeping it. Friendly Skies Bo st Newark Newark International Airport will become the major terminal in the New York area for United Airlines in June, when United increases its services there, company officials announced Beginning June 9. that fails, he said, it will file a petition with the Federal Communications Commission protesting the move. "We don't want to hurt the station financially," Burgos said, "but the fact is an industry is leaving the city, taking jobs with it, and that hurts us." Flood said the station employs about 30 persons in Paierson. She added that 95 of WXTV's business comes from New York, and that the Paterson business community never supported the station. Mydia Negron. a reporter for WXTV, said the move would not diminish the stations coverage of the Hispanic community in the state.
