NESD eyes tax increase to offset utility bill spiral By VICKIE DAV IDSON North East School District may raise school taxes to pay its utility bills which have tripled over last year. arc going to have to raise our taxes to pay our utility said school board member Don Harris following a Thursday board meeting. Harris called the increased costs that the city is collecting. During Thursday's meeting Dist.

Supt. Ivan Fitzwater reported that the natural gas bill had increased 300 per cent in October. In Oct. 1973 the bill was $1,521 and in Oct. 1974 the school paid $4,590.

North East School eh etric bill for the same month was $37,151 in 1973 and $51,652 this year. Harris told the board Thursday that the Bexar County Federation of School Boards is still challenging the legality of the city City Public Service arrangement. The federation is waiting for an attorney ruling on the legality of the city taking 14 per cent of CPS revenues in lieu of taxes. School officials say the arrangements constitutes a tax on the schools by the city. During the Thursday meeting North East School Board also accepted the low bid of $238,884 for an addition to Churchill High School.
