549.95 359.95 68.95 550.00 TOTAL M.S.L. $1528M $85.000 expense feared United Way hesitant to move The United Way board of directors, meet ing Wednesday to discuss the possibility of seeking new headquarters, decided "not to be rushed" Into making a move that might cost more than $85,000. The move would be from the present office at Red Cross House on Plymouth Street to the City Centre on Wellington Street. Red Cross needs more space for its expanding blood transfusion service and has asked for the United Way's offices on the second floor in ordeiNo avoid expanding into a second building, president Bill Lee told the board. In 1967 the United Way assisted Red Cross with a loan of $50,000 to build its present headquarters and has since been allocated 10,260 square feet or 29 per cent of the building space at Red Cross House for itself and the Social Planning Council, one of its member agencies.

The United Way has a renewable 10-year cost-sharing agreement with Red Cross that expires in 1987. Through this agreement, the United Way reimburses Red Cross for 29 per cent of taxes, operating and maintenance costs, and building depreciation, Lee said. The share of these costs has amounted to ii.AO per square foot in the past 12 months. The United Way was anxious to cooperate fully with Red Cross and understood the organization's wish to keep all its services under one roof, Lee said. But both the cost of moving to a new location and the renting of office space at current market prices would have to be thoroughly studied because renting space 111 1 Mr feg iff would be more expensive in the long run than the present partnership agreement with Red Cross, he said.

During the summer a committee investigated 18 possible locations and their rental costs. But board members agreed "to take six months if necessary to look' for. alternatives," when the estimated cost over the first five years of occupancy of the City Centre came to $85,916. The Red Cross informed the board that it is prepared to recommend the payment of $20,000 to help with moving costs, installing telephones and office partitions. Board members, however, asked the executive to seek other sources of funding as well before deciding to make "any kind of a move." stwuJjx ryt I iSsX 7" I "j- 1 MORE CUSTOM SYSTEMS TO Dozens of In-Store Specials!
