Wc own our home and have a beautiful life together. So what is my problem? My mother. We fought 24 hours a day. When I turned 19 I moved out to keep my sanity.

Mother never forgave me for "deserting" her and embarass-ing her in front of her friends. If they only knew the beatings she gave me, the screaming and grief I left behind. -No one would believe it. I've tried so hard to get my mother to like me. Last Mother's Day I sent her flowers.

She threw them in the trash can in my presence. Why is it that this late in life I miss not having a mother? Last week, I went to the zoo alone. While watching the gorillas (they're fascinat- Dr. Joyce Brothers Quiz on marriages In order to find marital happiness must couples be approximately the same age? Does it make a difference? If you'd like to check your views on May-September matings, compare your views' with those of the experts by answering these questions: 1. May-September or May-December marriages rarely are successful.

TrueO False 2. Unattractive women are somewhat more apt to marry older, men than are beautiful women. TrueD False 3. Almost all research indicates that it's far better for women to marry older men than for young men to marry older women. TrueD False 4.

Patterns in May-September marriages have changed in the past decade. True False 5. There are no special traps in May-December marriages. TrueD False t). Sex is much more apt to be a problem in a May-December marriage than in one in which the partners are of approximately the same age.

TrueD False Answers: 1. FALSE. Usually the individual who selects a much older mate Is reminded by friends, family and society that he or she is doing something unusual. Because of this, he or 'she gives more thought to the relationship before the marriage, so there often are fewer disappointments or surprises than in a conventional marriage. Such relationships frequently fill the special needs of both partners.

2. FALSE. Exceptionally attractive women are more apt to marry much older men than are less attractive ones. This Is because they become disillusioned. Their unrealis-tlcally high expectations of sex and love majl produce the feeling that no young nan can please them.

The and forget? Ing), the maternal instincts were so touching. I cried. I've been depressed ever since. Why can't my mother forgive me for leaving home, even though I'm willing to forget those 19 years of grief? Why do I keep, trying to get her to like me? My father and I have a wonderful relationship. Please help.

Am I A "CUM" at 21? Dear 29: One who has not been adequately loved by the principal person in his or her life carries the scars forever. But understanding why the love was not forthcoming will free you from your prison of sadness. Please get counseling. It.will help you see that the cause of your mother's inability to love you is not due to a deficiency in you but in her. exceptionally pretty woman is used to being spoiled and she's more apt to get the treatment she wants and needs from a much older man.

To him, she will always look young so her fears of aging will be diminished. 3. FALSE. Young men are attracted to and marry older women for many of the same reasons that young women marry much-older men. They like the feeling of being taken care of more than the feeling of freedom and independence.

They want to be protected and nurtured economically and emotionally. Since women live longer than men, and since they reach their sexual peak in their late 30s whereas males reach theirs at a much earlier age, the advantages would seem to be on the side of younger man-older woman relationships. 4. TRUE. The sexual revolution and the women's movement have both contributed to the increase in marriages and sexual liaisons between older women and younger men.

Even a generation ago, this was rare. The pattern in the past Involved older men and younger women. 5. FALSE. There are some special traps that are not usually present in a more conventional union.

Increased chance of Illness in the older partner is one. The danger of turning the younger partner into a substitute child is another. Envy and jealousy of the younger partner and his or her friends is another problem of which both partners should be aware. 6. FALSE.

This is usually thought to be the case, but this Is a view based on the myth that sex is only for the young. The older man who marries a ywtnger wdmajrnisuaTJy nods ways to satisfy her sexual needs and the younger man who marries the older woman is apt to have fewer sex-eal iwoolems thai if he married younger woman. Charity game real The charity program has long been an important part of ACBL activities. Over the past few years, two major improvements have been made to the program vis-a-vis Canada 1. all funds raised in Canada are now returned to the Canadian Charity Fund by the ACBL, and, 2.

a Unit or a club holding a second yearly charity event may donate the proceeds to any registered local charitable organizations. Many Ottawa clubs have taken advantage of the second game to donate funds to a variety of local activities. The Carllngwood club has been particularly successful in raising funds by adding a twist or two to the local charity event, and this year is no exception. Next Tuesday, a number of Life Masters, many of the best players in Ottawa, will be auctioned off as partners for the Local Strengest-ever chess tournament The strongest chess tournament ever held will take place in Montreal next month. The Man and His World Chess, Tournament will be a doubt-round robin competition between ten of the top players, in the world: Anatoly Kar-pov; Boris Spassky; Mikhail Tal (all USSR); Bent Larsen (Denmark); Lubomir Kavalek (USA); Lajos Portisch (Hungary); LJubomir Ljubojevic (Yugoslavia); Jan Timman (Netherlands); Anthony Miles (England); and Robert Hubner (West Germany).

With an average rating of 2618, the tournament will have a Category of 15. The strongest tournaments ever held before had a Category of 14. No Canadians will play at Man and His World. The highest Canadian, Peter Biyiasas, has a rating 75 points lower than the weakest player in the tournament Miles. While one can understand the organizers desire to obtain the strongest players available, the tournament will still have been Category 15 if Biyiasas had been substituted for any of the players save Kar-pov.

I view the lack of Canadians in the tournament as a national disgrace. Yet this country being Canada, it Is almost certain that the tournament will have more success because no Canadian Is playing. Prophets and Canadian talents are not welcome In their own land! The tournament is supported by. La Presse newspaper of Montreal, the City of Montreal, the government of Quebec, Air Canada, and Charity Game on Tuesday, March 27, The receipts from this area, of course, added to the funds raised from the Charity Game itself on the 27th. Everyone wins from this type of activity the Local Charity, and the players who have always wanted to play with a really top player are both winners.

There was known to be a strong Fenian force at Portland, Maine, and it was expected that it would attack New Brunswick on St. Patrick's Day.

Volunteers rode from house to house along the' New Brunswick border warning the men to get out their guns and be prepared to defend their homes The attack did not take place except for a-raid on Campobello Island but the danger was one of the reasons why New Brunswick changed Its mind about Confederation and decided to Join Canada. However, the Fenians did make a large scale attack on the Niagara area on May SI but were defeated. On June another Fenian force of 1800 men raided the Eastern Townships of Quebec from Vermont anaranaeiwi seveiai wiuuiuiu They were forced to withdraw when a VS. force seized their lupply depot at St. Albans.

Another Fenian force gathered at Ogderuburg, N.V., intending to attack Prescott hut a gun-boat prevented them from crossing the river. Later they raided Manitoba and had plana to attack British Columbia, buvthe VS. government eventually forced them to disband. 17 Eunice 5V Gardiner Be Heard I am a high school student and want to become a nurse. According to the Parliamentary Guide, Hon. Barnett Jerome Danson served as a lieutenant with the Queen's Own Rifles of Canada from 1939-1945. He was appointed Minister of National Defence, Sept. 14, 1976.

We have an old house that has squeaky floors. Is there anything we can do to fix them, as they are driving Us crazy? We maintain a good level of hunidity in the house over the winter months. Squeaky floors are due to loose boards, either in the finished floor or in the sub-flooring, rather than any atmospheric condition. Loosening may be due to warping or loose nails. If the floor is over the basement, and the underside can be seen, it is relatively easy to locate the trouble between the floor and the beam and to nail the floor board firmly to two or more beams.

For the upper floors, it is best to locate the loose beams by sound. (A tap over the beam will not have the hollow ring). Is there any way to clean an old brooch, which I believe to be paste jewelry? Cover the brooch with French chalk and rub it in with a soft brush, then brush out. Polish with chamois. Never wash stones set with paste, as water may soften the cement and cause the stones to fall out.
