and Mrs. Clayton Hicks, Mr. Area news briefs Superintendent hired PARSONS S. J. "Al" Alioto of Farmington, N.M., is the new superintendent of Parsons Unified School District 503.

The employment of Alioto was announced at a special meeting of the district's board today. Alioto, 46 years old, has been superintendent of schools at Farmington since 1972. Its school district has 7,200 students. There are 2,542 full-time students enrolled in Parsons district schools. Gwen S.

Sengpiehl, vice president of the Parsons district board, said Alioto will assume duties here as deputy superintendent on June 23 and on July 1 will begin a two-year contract as superintendent at an initial salary of $25,000. a year. Principal resigns CANEY Bob Henson, principal of Caney Valley High School, has resigned effective last Unified School District 436 Supt. John Picard said today. Henson has been offered a position as director of curriculum for USD 461 at Neodesha, an official in Neodesha and Mrs.

Harry Kramer, Mr. and confirmed today. Tlie official said next meeting June 2 at 7:30 p.m. Both Henson and Williams said this morning that "differences in philosophy" with Picard prompted their resignations. Picard said it "was not fair to comment" on the resignations but admitted a difference in philosophy existed between the three men.

Record attempt fails INDEPENDENCE Four young men of Independence failed in an attempt to make their way into the Guinness Book of World Records by beating the record of 50 hours and five minutes of continuous doubles tennis play. Mrs. Fay Goodner returned home Saturday from a three-week vacation in Bedrdstown, Bushnell and Astoria, 111., where she visited three aunts who are in the 80s and several cousins. A point of special interest visited by Mrs.

Goodner was Lincolh New Salem, 111., where Abraham Lincoln worked for a time helping to build a log cabin which still stands. She returned home by way of Odessa, to visit her grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. George Vanatta, who brought her home Saturday. Francis Workman, Elk Falls; Mrs.
