Crowded House had a 1 series of huge hits from its first self-titled album including Something So Strong, and World Where You Live, disbanded in 1996. Drummer Paul Hester hanged himself in March 2005. Finn said the band was holding auditions for a new drummer.

The Associated Press Crowded House, which scored a worldwide hit with the song Don't Dream It's Over in 1986, announced Wednesday it was reforming to record an album and go on tour. Singer-songwriter Neil Finn said in a statement he would reunite with fellow founding member Nick Seymour under the Crowded House name, and that the two had already spent part of last year writing music together. "We are now announcing our intention to reform Crowded House with a new record entitled, Time On Earth," Finn said. Plus, I was in the studio with this incredible group of musicians that included Kevin Breit (No-rah Jones) on guitar and Doug Riley on keyboards." Ryder then recorded three new originals that were placed at the end of a disc. They follow knockout performances of Coconut Grove, which was penned by the late Zal Yanovsky of Lovin' Spoonful fame, Leonard Cohen's Sisters of Mercy, Paul Anka's It Doesn't Matter Anymore, Sylvia Fricker Tyson's You Were On My Mind and Percy Faith's My Heart Cries For You. "The title of the album comes from (lyrics for) This Wheel's on Fire, which Rick Danko of The Band wrote with Bob Dylan. We covered a lot of ground and I had no reservations about interpreting material that stands the test of time. It's inspiring." Speaking of The Band, Ryder all but brought a crowd at the Museum of Civilization to its feet at the Ontario Council of Folk Festivals convention last month in Ottawa with a rendition of the song that appeared on the classic Big Pink recording.

Two weeks later, she was on the road doing promotional rounds across Canada for this album before heading off for another tour Down Under, where she's booked to perform in a string of small theatres. mmmmmmm Fart Ws -f i--' -1 ''f GHOST RIVER THEATRE SHADOW THEATRE PRESENT 1 jJkJL 'All AIMS PETER NORTH Edmonton Journal Ontario artist Serena Ryder is set to become one of the brightest lights on the Canadian music scene with the official release of If Your Memory Serves You Well. At just 23, SPOTLIGHT Ryder has Serena Ryder beenattract-plays Calgary's ing critical Grand Theatre acclaim since on Saturday bursting onto the national scene as a 19-year-old thunderclap of a singer-songwriter loaded with talent. Back then, she recorded a mini-album at the Black Sheep Inn in the picturesque Quebec township of Wakefield. Its arrival alerted the roots establishment and also got the attention of left-of-centre radio programmers, media and hip Canadian popster Hawk-sley Workman.

Less than two years later, Ryder released the Workman-produced Unlikely Emergency disc, which led to international attention. Another round of raves brought about bookings at major festivals in America and Australia and reviews bursting with superlatives concerning both the power of her voice and the insights this emerging artist could so skillfully express. Just last summer, Ryder blew away audiences across the country as the opening act for Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman. She also sold thousands of dollars of merchandise following half-hour sets that allowed her to road test some of the material she'd recorded for the If Your Memory Serves You Well. It is a disc that finds Ryder coming from an entirely different place than her first two releases.

"The idea for an album of what is largely well-known Canadian cover tunes from different eras came from Frank Davies, who founded the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame." Davies became a mentor a few years ago after being wowed by Ryder's talents. ft i v. "A yjlWILy SfNTIMtNTL COMING OF XC STORY.
