That old romanticist. Alexandre Du mas, used to complain that his son Alexandre Duma, til; aid entirely too much! preaching in hi plays. The elder Dumas a stout Republican, by the way-thought It was best Just to tell the story and let the Implication fall where they may. It' a little surprising coming from-our old friend the Count, though, ot course, he was always a little ahead of hls time since he has been through endless movies and play since Dumas pore originally created him. As 1 recall the Count of Monte Cristo. in it original, Edmund' waa more deeply concerned with winning hi -freedom, from the Chateau D'lf, then" getting hi hand on a vas.t iortune In Jewels, and finally personal vengeance than on any such -Ideological matter a the brotherhood of In the radio episode.

In one half-hour episode, the Count fought' four duels and won ail pf them, hands down. The, last one was fought in the -French Chamber of Deputies, putting a halt to' legislative business for the rest of tht day. By the time he got around to that bit of sword-p lay, the Count had not only three duel In the space of a few hour behind him but also two bullet in him, These slight handicaps deterred the Count not a whit He pitched in and dis patched! the wicked Duke in a matter of fifteen second by my watch. A a fan of the original Count I waa pleased to discover that Monte Cristo still has a weakness for landing in dungeons.
