What begins as a mob thriller in this film quickly moves into a story with an epic moral struggle and a very witty satire on the "manliness" of men with guns.

Great acting and a wicked script all help justify the brutal images, but it's the combination of humour and moral fibre that work to make In Bruges a seductive beast. A Rashomon-styled thriller that replays the same action from different perspectives, the film imagines a terrorist attack on the US. president which may sound credible, but in Travis's hands, the entire endeavour feels moronic and forced despite the presence of Sigourney Weaver and Dennis Quaid in central roles.

Either way, Vantage Point doesn't hit the intended target. It's a little too precious to be fun and far too shallow to be artsy, making it little more than a forgettable night of escapist entertainment about our worst nightmares.
