Unfortunately, the movie also goes wrong. There are some funny bits, but not enough sustained humor to float a COMPROMISING POSITIONS. (R) The murder of a dangerously over-sexed dentist electrifies a posh suburban town in this gleefully funny movie. You wit) definitely get a charge out of the devilishly sexy Judith rvey who delivers tart comments as one of the town's more wayward housewives. AMERICAN FLYERS.

As Hanks merely makes a fool of himself, the movie slowly sinks under the weight of its crude, cheapshot jokes.

REAL GENIUS. (PG). Some budding Einsteins. attending a high-tech college, are pressured into producing a laser weapon in this lame-brained comedy- Their juvenile "Animal House" antics are about as funny as listening to two eggheads discuss the theory of relativity. BACK TO THE FUTURE.

Vi (PG). A 17-year-old. played with zest by Michael J. Fox. travels back to the year 1955 where, after experiencing some hilarious cultural shocks, he encounters his then teenage parents.

This is surely the sweetest movie ever made about the Oedipal complex, one that reflects the optimistic, pro-kids philosophy of its executive producer, Steven Spielberg. SUMMER RENTAL. Vi (PG). John WEIRD SCIENCE. Vi (PG-13).

Two 15-year-old nerd-do-wells, create the perfect playmate with the help of a computer. The sultry machine-made creature transforms these gawky teens into great smoochers. Anthony Michael Hall and I Ian Mitchell-Smith are reasonably endearing as the geeks who just want to have fun. but the movie contains only flashes of writer John Hughes' sassy humor.
