Russ was born on September 5, 1928 in Neepawa, MB and was raised in Kenora, ON. He married Doreen Baker in 1950 in Kenora and they immediately moved to Calgary.

Russ was employed with Dominion Bridge, CIL Explosives and later painted houses until his retirement. Russ is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Janine and Bill Atchison of Red Deer, Debby and Shad Foster of Calgary; and two grandchildren, Trevor Atchison and Tyler Foster. Russ will also be missed by his special friend Isabelle Gordon of Calgary. He was predeceased by his wife Doreen in 2002; his son Brent Ames in 1999; grandson Donald Atchison in 2004; and twelve siblings. Helen will return to her beloved Alberta landscape.

A Service celebrating her life will take place in Claresholm, Alberta, July 24, 2007 at 2:00 p.m., St. John's Anglican Church; Graveside Service to follow. Helen will lie with her husband, William Bird, and their much-loved grandson, Danny William McLean, in the Claresholm Cemetery. The Reverend Kersi Bird of Calgary will officiate. Ernie was born on September 9, 1915 in Hora, Turkey (then Greece) and was a part of the post World War I expulsion of Greeks living in Turkey. He immigrated to Calgary at the age of six and was brought up by his older brother, Jimmy and sister-in-law, Maria. Ernie worked in the family restaurant, 'Jimmies' and later married Irma (nee loanidis) in 1945. He was a good provider, supporting the upbringing of their four children through his tireless efforts in the restaurant business. Ernie's passions were his family and serving his customers, which led to a large group of friends and acquaintances that will feel his absence.

He enjoyed sports, his annual fishing adventure and his friends, most recently the circle he developed while at Wentworth Manor. He is survived by his children, Maria (son-in-law Dennis Crete), Esodia, Jim (daughter-in-law Pat) and George; grandchildren, Robyn, Trisha and Brady; as well as his sister-in-law, Evelyn and brother-in-law, Connie. He was predeceased by his wife, Irma; his brothers, Demetrios (Jimmy), Orestes (Rusty), Gregory, Chrisostomos (Chris); and sisters, Christina and Eyanthy. Ernie's Funeral will be held on Monday, April 2, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church (1 Tamarac Crescent S.W.).

Art was born in Sheffield, England. He came to Calgary in 1954 with his brother and mother. Art was predeceased by his mother Marjorie and father Cyril. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Linda. Beloved by his nephews, Michael and Matthew (Danielle); and niece, Melissa (Pat).

Lee passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, March 28, 2007, after a short and courageous battle with cancer at the age of 71 years. Lee was born in Midale, SK on March 11, 1936. Following his graduation from Midale High School he married LaVonne and moved to Langley, BC.

Lee returned to the Midale area in 1957 to pursue a career in the Oil and Gas Industry. He and his family moved to Calgary in 1969. Lee retired after thirty-five years, returning to Midale often. Lee is survived by his wife Lavonne; their children, Terry, Darryl (Loretta), Susan (Larry), Shari (Jim); eight grandchildren, Scott, Tara, Lindsay, David, Kathy, Melissa, Samantha and Joey; his mother Della; six sisters, Shirley (Ray), Doreen (Aub), Jean (Morley), Grace, Joyce and Myrna (Nigel); four brothers, Murray (Kathy), Ron (Jean), Neil (Wanda), Jim (Cindy); and numerous nieces and nephews. Lee was predeceased by an infant sister Christina and his father Alfred.

Nyk suffered a stroke in Edmonton on December 29. Beloved husband and best friend of Patricia and father to Dawn, David, Peter and Mary Pat; grandfather to Brent, Scott, Laura and six great grandchildren. Stan's life was characterized by his love of family, his commitment as an educator and his mentorship of many students over a long teaching career. As a result of his involvement with the Native Centre at the University of Calgary, he was made an honorary elder and received the Rev.

Dr. Chief John Snow Sr. Award in 1992 for his contributions to aboriginal culture. Stan's diverse interests included literature, journalism, creative writing, native studies, team sports, Western horsemanship and calf roping. His love of words and his gift for storytelling delighted every listener.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Honoring Stan's wishes, no Funeral Services will be held. Grateful thanks to Dr. R. Drummond and all of the staff on Unit 300 of High River Hospital for their compassionate care.

He was predeceased by his parents, Robert V. (Bob) and Helen Hall of Brooks, and his father-in-law Art (Aat) Vander Valk of Calgary. Bob was born in Calgary, grew up in Brooks, and attended the University of Alberta where he was a member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity. In both his early career as a teacher and his later career as a psychologist at the University of Calgary Counseling Service, he led by example as a caring and genuinely helpful mentor and friend. During his career, Bob was a member of the Alberta Hospital Visitors' Committee, a board member at the Alberta Children's Hospital, and psychologist to the Olympic Luge Team.

He brought to all these endeavors a spirit of service, dedication and excellence. Honoured Provider of Dignity Memorial Dignity www.fostersgardenchapel.com -212573 LEGH- Francis (Frank) Capel Standish July 12, 1935 March 29, 2007 Surrounded by his family, Frank passed away at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, British Columbia Thursday night. Survived by his loving wife of forty-six years, Barbara Legh; sons, James (Laura) and Richard; daughter Sandra; granddaughters, Erica and Jennine; brother Richard (Vi) and sister Lyndall (Mike) plus numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Born and educated in Calgary he was the son of Cliff and Peggy Legh. He started his lifetime career in newspapers at the Calgary Herald.

He later moved to the Ottawa Journal in 1959 and married Barbara in 1960. In Ottawa he was active with the Jaycees, becoming their president and enjoyed the birth of his two sons. He later moved to the Winnipeg Tribune where he remained until its closure in 1980. It was in Winnipeg that his daughter was born and where he acquired the name 'Friendly Frank" a moniker that stayed with him to the end and accurately portrayed his love of people. He was active in Scouting as a youth leader and with his sons.

He contributed in countless ways to his communities, neighbours and family. He later transferred to the Hamilton Spectator as an advertising manager, followed by the Calgary Herald and then the Regina Leader Post. He retired in 1991 and moved to Nanaimo, British Columbia. An unfortunate accident soon after his retirement caused ongoing pain but did not stop him from acting as a consultant for Black Press on Vancouver Island for the past fourteen years. During his retirement he was able to completely renovate his home notwithstanding having limited use of his right arm.

His great joys in life were his wife Barbara, children and grandchildren, his love of woodworking, camping and fishing (although not necessarily catching). Frank's family and many friends across Canada will sorely miss him. MELNYK Theodor 1923 2007 Theodor Melnyk, beloved husband of Maria Melnyk of Calgary, passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at the age of 83 years. Theodor was born on October 11, 1923, in the village of Lytwyniw, Ukraine. Theodor and Maria immigrated to Canada in 1950 to join his sister Anna.

He was employed by Burns Foods until his retirement in 1986. Besides his loving wife Maria, Theodor is survived by his children, Ann (Jacques) Rioux, Irene Melnyk, and Peter Melnyk (Christina Derek and Jennifer), all of Calgary; as well as three grandsons, Robert, Michael and Dallas; and one great Deklan. He will also be fondly remembered by his niece Marie Russo and her family and his nephew Jozef Fiolek. Theodor was predeceased by his sister Anna in 2000, his parents, sisters and brother in Ukraine. Beverly May Major (Ret'd) Roderick Morrison Middleton MSM, CD, born in Calgary on January 23, 1929, passed away in Calgary, after a long illness, on Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at the age of 78 years. Rod was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his death. He leaves behind, his loving wife of fifty-five years, Laurine; son Geoffrey (Karen) and their children, Kelly (Dave) Buchanan and Leslie; son Gary (Cindy) and their children, Taraya, Colin, and Owen; daughter Janice (Grant) LaBar and their children, Derek, Brett, Adam and Paige; and son David (Cari) and their children, Alyssa and Stacey. Rod is also survived by sisters-in-law, Evelyn, Lauretta and Lorna as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents and his sister Beverley Hilderman. Rod served his country with distinction with the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry in Korea, Germany, England, India, USA and across Canada. Rod was dedicated to the establishment and success of the Military Museums, PPCLI Gallery, Memorial Hall of Honour and particularly proud of preserving regimental honours and traditions. Rod will be remembered for his caring and dedicated commitment to his family and his regiment. He will be sorely missed by all fortunate to have known him.

The family would like to express their many thanks to the Agape Hospice and the Tom Baker Cancer Clinic for their care and compassion. The family of Bev Moore wish to announce her sudden passing on Sunday, March 25, 2007 at her home in Calgary, at the age of 66 years. Bev will be sadly missed and remembered with great affection by her family and many friends. She touched countless lives during her years in the antiques business. Her circle of friends continued to expand and even resulted in a life changing experience when she became a special Nana. Bev was predeceased by her husband Don Moore; father Jim Hatch; stepfather Fred Barnes; mother Pearl Barnes; and brother Charles (Buzz) Hatch.

Left with treasured memories are her sister Pat Rogal (Ian); brother Jim Hatch (Dolores); close sisters-in-law, Margaret Hatch and Sharon Moore. She will also be fondly remembered by nephews, Greg Hatch (Cathy), Scott Rogal (Nancy), and Paul Rogal (Pat); nieces, Dawn Campbell (Derrick), Karen Topfer (Gary), Michelle Rudell (Kelly), and their children; as well as her extended family Cass Dittmer and Mark McCallum, and their children, Muskoka, Keanna, and Zander, to whom she was "Nana Bev'. Time spent with Bev was always a delight. She was kind, loving, generous, funny, and so much more. We will all miss her.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Dorothy Snider, with whom he has been happily married to since August 25, 1951. His memory will be forever cherished by his daughter Tina and son-in-law Tyrone Gonsalves; his daughter Georgia and son-in-law Duane Cheskey; his son John and by his sister Doris Yanke of Hamilton.

He was predeceased by his parents Beatrice and Byron Kerr of Carlyle, SK and by his brother-in-law the Reverend Robert Yanke. He was proud grandfather to Robert (Megan) and Jason (Robyn) Gonsalves and great -grandfather to Braeden, Evan, Tanner, Ashlyn and Caleb. Bob was born in Stoughton, SK on October 12, 1925 to Beatrice and Byron Kerr and grew up in nearby Carlyle. He earned a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan in 1948.

For more than forty years, as a professional engineer, he was employed by Westinghouse in Hamilton and then by Cooper Energy Services in Edmonton, Toronto, and for twenty-two years, until his full retirement, in Calgary. His wife Dorothy (Dot) shared and encouraged his passion for outdoor adventure. Together they enjoyed an active life, from sea kayaking to trekking in Nepal and cycling in Europe. Shortly before his sixty-fifth birthday, Bob hiked up Mount Kilimanjaro. As founding members of the Norseman X-Country Ski Club they spent their winters skiing and their summers biking, hiking and backpacking extensively in Alberta and BC with their many close friends.

Over the years, they particularly cherished their many trips to Mount Assiniboine Lodge, including two recent family reunions of which we hold the memories of, dear to our hearts. Durrand Glacier was also one of their favourite places in the Rockies, where they returned many times to enjoy the rugged hiking and unspoiled splendour of the Northern Selkirk Mountains. Throughout his life and travels, Bob remained true to the values and ideals of his prairie upbringing. To those who knew him, he was always the boy from Carlyle. The family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff of the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg for the excellent care and support that Bob received during his final battle with cancer.

Throughout the past three years, we have all been deeply inspired by his continued dignity, determination and grace. He never lost his ability to illuminate a room and touch people's hearts with his huge smile, which he was so well known for. A private family Service will be held. Ralph was born on May 31, 1914 at Granum, AB. He farmed in the Granum area before moving to Lethbridge in 1974 where he and Leah resided until 2002 when they moved to High River. Ralph is survived by his wife of sixty -eight years, Leah Poelman of High River; son Bill (Marie) Poelman, Turner Valley; along with four grandchildren, Gordon (Lori) and their children, Garrett and Gavin, Lynel (Tom) Barrow and their children, Cassandra, Kaylea and Ryleigh, Corene (Bryan) Stewart and their children, Brady and Austin and Susan Poelman.

He is also survived by his sisters, Annetta (John) Harris and Hilda (Archie) Nauta and numerous nieces and nephews.
