John was born in Fenwood, SK and was number eight of ten children. He was the king of Fenwood, and came to life when surrounded by his beautiful sisters.

John exemplified the best of that side of the family through his generous heart, caring spirit and outgoing nature. His other 'adopted family', as he affectionately called his Grimes-Nyberg in-laws, came to love and adore his loud, outgoing, and huggable nature. John had a zest for life; always living it to the fullest. Fearless of challenges, he would jump up from any situation saying, 'I get knocked down, but I get up again ain't nothing going to bring me He saw only the good in people, and embraced them all as if they were his own brother or sister. His life was full of accomplishments.

He began his career as a teacher in Saskatchewan, a job which brought him great satisfaction. Knowing that something greater was waiting for him, he moved to Calgary in 1956 to take up a position with the City of Calgary Purchasing department. It was here that fate came into play when he met his soulmate, Jackie, and they married on October 31, 1959. John then joined Western Natural Gas where he held various positions from 1962 until his retirement in 1996. John, however, still felt he had more to give, so he became an Insurance Broker, working alongside his son Tim.

John touched so many peoples' lives with his generosity and warm spirit. He was instrumental in developing and supporting the Alberta Mentor Foundation for Youth from 1995 to 2000, latterly as President of the Board. When he was not helping people, John loved to curl, golf and play endless games of Kaiser with his friends and family. Besides his loving wife, John will be sadly missed by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Julie and Todd and Nickey; and two daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Doug Shostak and Jill and Brent Behiels. He was a dedicated grandfather 'Gedo" to his eight wonderful grandchildren, Travis, Cassidy, Vhari, Hayley, Kate, Billie, Marcus and Connor; he loved and spoiled all eight of them.

John was always available to pick up, drop off, play hide and seek, or just plain listen to them. John was predeceased by his father Thomas Ogryzlo in 1947; and mother Dora (nee Terlasky) in 1977; sisters, Olga Ogryzlo in 1937 and Katie Kozakewich in 2000; and brother Walter Ogryzio in 1960. Funeral Services will be held at St. David's United Church (3303 Capitol Hill Crescent N.W.) on Tuesday, May 2, 2006, at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Ed Oman, Presider. Graveside Service to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery.

Sample verses: Mother or Sister One year has passed since that sad day, When one we loved was called away; God took her home, it was His will, But in our hearts she liveth still. Deep in the earth lies a picture Of a loved one laid to rest. In memory's frame we shall keep it Because she was one of the best. Father or Brother We often think of days gone by When we were all together, A shadow o'er our lives has cast, Our loved one gone forever. You're not forgotten, father, dear Nor ever shall you be; As long as life and memory last I shall remember thee.

Wife or Daughter No one knows our heartaches, Only those who have lost can tell Of the grief that we bear in silence For the one we loved so well. Sunshine passes, shadows fall Love's remembrance outlasts all; And though the years be many or few, They are filled with remembrance of you. Husband or Son Nothing can ever take away The love a heart holds dear. Fond memories linger every day, Remembrance keeps him near You were always true and patient Through the years you struggled on And those hands that rest forever Made the home that now is gone Child He has gone to be an angel, Secure in our Father's care, And his dear little feet now patter along The beautiful streets up there. She was only a little rosebud A sweet little flower from birth, God took her home to Heaven before she was soiled on earth Friend or Kin We cannot, Lord, Thy purpose see, But all is well that's done by Thee.
