The First Baptist Church Vacation Bible School will begin Monday, June 10, and continue through Wednesday night, June 19. "This Vacation Bible School has been planned with the pupil in mind," states Jim Fineout, Music and Education Director. He says that the Vacation Bible School goes far in directing constructive recreation and handwork for the pupils. "It is an excellent way to acquaint the pupils with their Sunday School teachers and other church workers," relates Fineout. A concentrated Bible study will be held throughout the eight day school program.

All children in the community are invited to attend the school. On June 8 a caravan including a loud speaker, will canvas the community announcing the date of the Vacation Bible School. Information regarding transportation to and from the school, and other general information about the school will be given over the loud speaker as the caravan travels over the city. "Candy suckers imprinted with the date and place of the Vacation Bible School will be passed out to all persons along the parade route," said Mr. Fineout.

I wish a full and accurate report could be given of what was done. Unfortunately, many of the reports to the public left wrong impressions. As these misunderstandings are cleared up, those of us who were present and were a part of the proceedings will take pride in what was done, and our children will look upon us with honor and gratitude.

1 learned long ago that it is not necessary to agree with everything about a movement to see its value. Let no small item in the Conference allow us to lose sight of the great issues and their accomplishments. This was a Church Conference that was not afraid. It had the spirit of adventure, ready and eager to face a new and rough world. The feeling was that the church has been playing a losing game.

It was time to change. The only game that should not be changed is a winning game. We changed to quit losing. This Conference was held without demonstrations or unhappy incidents not so in the last two Methodist General Conferences. Dallas has a new meaning to the world because of this Uniting Conference and what was done here.

We could have had an entirely different experience if the Conference itself had been different. We had better be grateful for this. Concerning the disturbed impressions some of the public received from certain pronouncements and actions, let me urge that the FULL ACCOUNTS BE READ IN THE DAILY ADVOCATE, AND NOT JUST A FEW LINES REPORTED HERE AND THERE. She ll Be Coining For ou EVERYONE WELCOME We ll Be First Baptist LOOKING For You! Church 1300 15th Street Plano. Texas discovered that most people get upset over a sentance or a phrase taken out of context, or a particular headline that conveys the wrong interpreta- The Methodist Church has not changed its stand on law observance. If anyone thinks that our stand is for law violation he does not know the action of the Uniting Conference. This Conference emphasized respect for the law.

One of the first paragraphs in the section of the report dealing with the church and wla begins: "We affirm the value and necessity of a society rooted in law and of a citizenry who respect the law. No society can long continue without justice and order and these cannot exist unless the members of a society adhere to the rule of law." The report did say that it is possible that sometime, somewhere, somehow, there could be an instance where God and the state (law) might be in conflict. In such a case one had better obey God. To say that it is not possible ever for the state to be wrong is to equate God and the law. This is what the Communist says that the individual should never disobey the state, never, at all.

God is thus firmly locked up in the law and the law becomes man's only supreme authority. Frankly, when this issue is rightly interpreted, most Christians agree with the Uniting stand. Otherwise, what about the martyrs, the reformers, the Apostlg. Paul, and those who refused to obey order to help murder six million Jews? But let us remember that NO BLANKET PERMISSION OR APPROVAL was given to even non-violent civil disobedience by United Methodism in Dallas. Furthermore, if anyone thinks The United Methodist has relaxed its stand on the use of tobacco and alcohol he is wrong.

Let him read the position of the Methodist Church in that section of the General Rules dealing with these two indulgences. Also let him read the E. U. B. stand stated in their Social Principles.

Our position is rooted in these two statements and they are quite clear that abstinence is our position as it has been all along. We have shifted our authority on tobacco and alcohol with our ministers from legalism to moral conscience. This is where we are supposed to be specialists under the Spirit of Christ. If we cannot trust the moral conscience of ministers in these matters we are in a bad plight, any way you take it. for one, believe the air has been cleared for us to hold ministers to a deeper to Jesus Christ and His work, rather than to a legal vow or promise.

If you have doubts about the Uniting Conference, reserve your judgment until you have all the facts. At lease read the full accounts and not condensed report. Not least, breathe a prayer over your thoughts and your feelings. It just may be that God was in the midst of this Conference guiding its spirit, and that time will reveal increasingly His Presence in what was done. Anyhow, this is my faith.
