A fiercely independent spirit, Margaret is adored and deeply missed by her family and friends of all ages from across Canada. The first of seven children born to Colonel Allan and Florence MacLeod of Hartsville, PEI, Margaret moved away in her mid-twenties but considered herself an "Islander' all her life. Passionately Canadian, Margaret was always interested, informed and vocal about current affairs. She never shied away from debating public policy, especially on education and health issues. She was a frequent contributor to CBC Radio's talkback line.

An avid storyteller, Margaret loved to recount tales of travels to her ancestral home of the Scottish highlands, to wellness retreats on Canada's west coast, or to the far north, in Nunavut, where she went dog sledding for her 80th birthday. Predeceased by her husband Arthur Albert Burgess and brothers, Alexander, Douglas, John, Ira, and Oliver MacLeod, Margaret is deeply missed and beloved by those she left behind: her sister Mary; her sons, Arthur and Reagh (Jackie); her grandchildren, Daniel (Crystal), Sarah (Warren), Parker and Kirstin; and her two greatgrandchildren, Aaron and Ben.
