St Jacques Headquarters and Miscellaneous Revolutionary A revolutionary new method of making concrete known as "Pre pakt which contains 40 percent more stone aggregate than ordinary concrete, and which is especially adaptable to under water, breakwater, overhead and repair work, was described to meeting of Ottawa Branch of the Engineering Institute of Canada in the Coliseum on Wednesday night, by P. Disney, vice-pres ident of Intrusion Prepakt, Lim itectf The new concrete, which Is being used at present on repair work at the Champliln Bridge In Ottawa, consists of a stone ag gregate first filling the forms.

eliminating the necessity of pumping out of the forms. A grout or mixture consisting of cement, an agent, and water is then forced through tubes ois trlbuted at definite centres through-the stone in a continuous flow. It can beas perfectly, made under water as above, duetto the extra stone content and the all important placing of the stone in the forms first Another im portant factor in large dams, such as tne souiaer vam, is tne reduction by about one-third of the heat resulting from hydration ot lime. By this method, it is be lleved that it is possible to1 go down to any necessary depth to oouin a rocK base. Speaking of the Decew power deveicrpment at St Catharines, Mr.

Disney said that this new concrete, used extensively there, had made available 90.000 h.p. three years earlier than Would have otherwise been possible. Continuing; he said that the Quebec Bridge, a tremendous en gineerlnr feat in Its time, re designed using this new concrete? method, could be built for 000,000 Instead of the $48,000,000 It cost and would be placed on a solid rock base at that Fur ther, he felt that the' two structural failures suffered during its which cost many lives, could be. avoided.
