Ben was born March 20, 1929 in Regina, Saskatchewan. He graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1951 with a degree in Civil Engineering. Ben's dedication and commitment progressed a highly successful career during which he held senior positions with leading engineering and construction firms. For many years, Ben was an active member of the Calgary Construction Association and also devoted his time and guidance to numerous volunteer initiatives in both Calgary and then Victoria.

Ben had a love for the west coast and most enjoyed spending time with family at their property on Cortez Island or on his boat sightseeing and fishing with his children and grandchildren. Ben was a gentle man who was always willing to give. He gave so much support, laughter and love to his family and he will be dearly missed. Ben is survived by his loving wife Margaret of over fifty years; and his daughters, Dawn (Bruce) Bauman, Kim Samson, Gail (Randy) Stuart, Joanne (Dave) Temple; his son Brad Sworder; his brother John Sworder; and ten adoring grandchildren. Ben was predeceased by his daughter Linda Sworder.

The family wishes to extend their appreciation to their many friends, Reverend Michael Hemming, Dr. Davidson, Dr. Weinermann, Nurse Sue Christianson and all the home care and palliative care staff for their compassion and support. A Memorial Service will be held on September 17, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at St.

David by the Sea Anglican Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Fund or the Victoria Hospice Fund. RUTHERFORD Mary "Gladys" (nee Moffat) Gladys Rutherford passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2005 in Calgary. Gladys' husband John (Jack) Bow Rutherford predeceased her in 1968 as did her granddaughter Barbara (Rutherford) Rothlisberger, in 1999. She is survived by her son John and his wife Muguette; as well as her daughter Dorothy and her husband John Russell.

She has four grandchildren, Michael (and wife Rose) Rutherford and Peter (and wife Charlotte) Russell, Deanna Russell and Timothy Russell. She also has four greatgrandchildren, Barbara's daughter, Zoe Rothlisberger, Sophia and Sean Rutherford (children of Michael and Rose), and Timothy's son Christopher. Gladys was extremely proud to be a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan and instilled in her children the importance of education. Accordingly, she greatly enjoyed her work at the Canadian Teachers' Federation where she established an overseas exchange program for Canadian teachers, concentrating on underdeveloped countries in Africa and the Caribbean. After retirement, she worked part-time at the Overseas Book Centre, where she continued to promote education in underdeveloped countries through the donation of used textbooks.

Gladys traveled extensively, both with her husband and children, and on her own after her husband died, visiting every continent more than once. She also loved driving and drove from Ontario to Florida in the fall returning in the spring by herself, many times over fifteen years or more. Gladys had a wonderful sense of humour and enjoyed staying abreast of current events and politics all her life. She was a keen bridge player and was happy to have a good serious game at any time. As a young girl, she played tennis and keenly followed the professional players in her retirement years.

A Private Family Service will be held at a later date in Ottawa where she will be buried beside her husband. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made in Gladys' memory, directly to the University of Saskatchewan Development (www.usask.caadvancement) or to the charity of the donor's choice. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In living A memory of Gladys Rutherford, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by j.
