Holstein, Guernsey Classes, Offer Clpse Competition wuafing ei dairy cattle wat completed yesterday at the Ex hibition with the exhibiting of the Holsteins and, for the firit time In the history of the Exhibition, the Guernseys. The showing of Guernseys wss a very creditable one with Judge G. E. Raithby, Guelhp, having to do some very close scrutinizing before making the Top male honors went to Jack Fraser, who had grand cham pion bull with Foremost Majesty. wmie reserve- grand champion bull was Caumsett Reaper for Klngfield Farms, King.

The only local exhibitor, present. H. Clark. Ottawa, had second In the aged bull class and first in Junior yearling bulL Clark also led in aged cow but Klngfield had both grand and re serve champion female while Fraser had Junior champion fe male. In group classes Klngfield emerged on top in all but one class, the Junior herd, which went to Fraser.

Hoist Ins. The Holstein display was one of the largest of the Exhibition with Judge T. E. Bays, Toronto, being called upon to place as many as 13 animals in the heifer calf class. Grand cnampion male was taralee Pabst RA Sovereign, son ol the lamous Montvic RA Sov ereign, for Weaver Bel mont.

Miners Benefit By Increased Output in Mines -TRURO. NS, Aug. 28. Thomas Kennedy, international vice-president of United Mine Workers, said today increased production in the coal fields is the key to Improvements for miners in the Maritime. He told, delegates to the annual UMW District 28 convention here that low productivity still is holding British miners back.

Increased production had been the key to improvements in the United States. Mr. Kennedy said the UMW had a tough time getting Its current contract with Maritime operators after the 1947 Maritime coal strike because production was low. President Freeman Jenkins said the coal industry kept going dur ing the war because the Government poured money Into it. Once subventions "production had to come up, some things had to be done in the collieries or they Would have He added "we were on our own after the war.

When somebody else Isn't paying the shot the operators will have to keep the industry on its feet And they won't run it at a loss. Lucien Lamoureux Executive Assistant To Transport Minister Promotion of Lucien Lamoureux, secretary to Transport Minister Chevrier, to the position of executive assistant to the Minister and appointment of Miss Lorraine Gougeon to succeed Mr. Lamoureux as secretary, Is announced today by the Civil Service Commission.

Miss Gougeon was formerly associate private secretary to the Minister of Transport. Mr. Lamoureux Is a native of Ottawa and is a graduate, of the University of Ottawa, 'having specialized in philosophy. He obtained his-BA degree in 1940 at the age of 19, his LPh. in 1941 and his MA in 1942.

While attending the University of Ottawa, Mr. Lamoureux won the university gold medal for debating in 1940 and the following year was a member of the university team which won the Villeneuve Trophy. Added to his other activities, he was editor and director of the university paper "La Entering Osgood Hall. Toronto, In 1942, Mr- Lamoureux graduated in law in 194S and was associated with an Ottawa law Arm for a short time before being appointed secretary to Hon. Mr.

Chevrier. That same year he married Miss Claire Couture, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Achllle Couture of Hull. Joined CS In 1938.

Miss Gougeon was born at St. Eugene, and moved to Ottawa as a child. She was graduated from the High School of Com merce In 1935 with the principal's dedal. She has been In the Government service since 1938, first with the Department of National Defence, the French Purchasing Commission, the Department of Munitions and Supply and later with the Department of Trans port. Miss Gougeon has been associated with, Mr.

Chevrier' secretarial staff since 1943 when he was parliamentary assistant to the Minister of Munitions and Supply. She later accompanied him to the Department of Transport when he was appointed Minister In 1943.
