THE IOLA KANSAS REGISTER" FRIDAY, JANUARY 12, 1973 PAGE 2 Arthur Byerly Arthur Byerly, 74, Modesto, died Sunday at the Memorial Hospital Ceres in Modesto, possibly as a result of injuries suffered in a traffic accident on November 21. Mr. Byerly was born near Carlyle and had been a resident of Modesto for the past 40 years. He was a veteran of World War I and II and was awarded the Silver Star. He was a member of American Legion Post 74, VFW Post 3199, Veterans of World War I Barracks 254, the Alano Club and the Iola Lodge 38, AF AM, in Iola Survivors include his wife, Mary; two sons, Arthur W.

and Robert both of Modesto, and two daughters, Cecile McCord, Virginia, Helen J. Westfall, Pacifica, Calif. a sister, Mayme Newport, South Dakota; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services were under the direction of Franklin Downs Funeral Home in Modesto. Luther Ferguson Luther Ferguson, 70, Warrensburg, died Thursday morning at the County Hospital in Warrensburg.

Mr. Ferguson was employed by the Lehigh Portland Cement Plant in Iola until his retirement. Survivors include his wife, Nellie; one brother, Charles, Warrensburg; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Sweaney-Phillips Warrensburg.

Fisk, 75, Route 1, whose death was reported in yesterday's Register, will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Friskel-Kinser Chapel.

The Rev. I.J. Rohr, Piqua, will officiate and burial will be in the St. Martin's Cemetery, Piqua. Mr.

Fisk had been seriously" ill the past three months. He died at his home Wednesday. He was born October 3, 1897, at LaHarpe and had been a lifetime resident of this area. On July 5, 1944, he was married to Adeline E. Wille of piqua.

He farmed for many years and also worked as a' bricklayer and plasterer. Survivors include his widow the home; four brothers, TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) The first week of the 1973 edition of the Kansas Legislature ended Thursday noon following Robert Docking's budget message which he termed "austere but adequate" even though it represents a 26 per cent increase over the recommended budget he submitted a year ago. The legislature adjourned for a long weekend following Docking's last such long rest for the session according folegislative leaders. The legislature was in session for three days this week, and saw the introduction of 119 bills.

In his message-Thursday, Docking presented a "no tax increase" budget 'to the ture, but said it provides new programs for Kansas citizens. Docking's budget for the 12- July 1 is a proposed record $1.25 sizeable increase over his last year's estimate of $990.62 million. Docking said, "Our economy is bright, perhaps it has never been brighter. "Our personal income in Kansas is at an all-time high. Employment has never been greater."
