Elmer Conover spent last weekend touring the Bad Lands and a 60-mile tour of the Black Hills. They also visited their cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Virgle Thompson and family in Rapid City, S.D. Elizabeth Lee Apt of Newport Beach, will arrive Wednesday to visit her mother, Mrs.

Ada Apt, and her brothers, Charles and Fred Apt Public meeting planned for Thursday evening The Allen County Association for Retarded Citizens will have a public meeting Thursday evening starting at 7:30 in the basement meeting room of City Hall. Chanute man charged James G. Sonka, 22, Chanute, was charged with disturbing the peace and assault in connection yesterday with an incident at Kings Drive-In. Police said Sonka is reported to have pointed a 410 gauge shotgun at Nathan C. Doughty, Humboldt, an employe at the drive-in, when he went to Sonkas car to wait on him.

Sonka is scheduled to appear in Allen County Court December 2 to answer the charges. Invitations were received from the Fredonia chapter for Dec. 18 and Savonburg chapter Nov. 24. Refreshments were served by Velma Eyler and Viola Dalgarno.

Busy Brush Paint Club meets in Erie home The Busy Brush Paint Club met with Mrs. Ward Corbett and daughter Karen of rural Erie Friday for an allday meeting. Sewing and painting was the work for the day. Mrs. Paul Harclerode conducted the business meeting.

The hostess gift was received by Mrs. Evans Mynatt. Eight members were present. Thanksgiving theme for Trailhounds The Allen County Chapter of the National Campers and Hikers Association held their November meeting at Von Humboldt Plaza. Mr.

and Mrs. Chalmers Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Millard Cress of Humboldt were the host couples. The tables for the covered dish supper were decorated in a Thanksgiving theme.

The poem, Thank Goodness for Thanksgiving was read by Fayette Walters. Eighteen family members and three guests were present. EX TO1 igjJ i John W. Morris John W. Morris, 60, brother of Mrs.

P. R. Maxwell and Mrs. Ted McClain of Iola, died suddenly Monday in Parsons, where he was visiting another sister, Mrs. O.

C. Powell. He was bom May 31, 1915, near West Mineral, Kansas, and spent most of his youth in St. Paul area. Mr.

Morris was a veteran of World War II and a Baptist. He was a resident of the Iola area until 1960 and had farmed and worked as a foreman at Walton Foundry. Mr. Morris is survived by Mrs. Morris of the home; four sons, Bill of Monclair, California, Wayne, David and Joe of Las Vegas; six grandchildren, and three sisters listed above, and three brothers, Bob of Wichita, Sam of Colburn and Oliver of Walnut, Kansas.

A daughter, Rebecca Sue; two brothers, and two sisters preceded him in death. Graveside services will be held at Highland Cemetery in Iola Thursday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Ray Nitcher of Gas will conduct the services. The Burris-Wall Funeral Home of Parsons is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. J.D. Jones Myrtle I. Jones, 82, 201 Campbell Street, died yesterday, November 18, at her home. Further details and funeral arrangements will be reported in Wednesdays Register.

Southeast Kansas news Jail plan okayed FORT SCOTT Judge Sam Mason of Bourbon County Court said a regional jail to be constructed in Fort Scott has been approved. He said the final approval on the oft-delayed project means bids can be advertised for Dec. 18.

Mason, who has been coordinating plans for the regional jail, said the National Clearinghouse on Criminal Justice had no further objections to the plan. The State Department of Corrections also said the final plans are now adequate. Changes in the jail plan brings it into compliance with strict state regulations. A final revision brought the number of cells from 22 to 25. Cost of the jail has been estimated at $600,000 by architects.

NCCJC considered for accreditation CHANUTE Tentative comments given by an accreditation team to Neosho County Community Junior College were that the school should be given full accreditation for three years. J. C. Sanders, president of the college, said the opinion was only tentative and subject to approval and final recommendation of the evaluating team. The college has applied for full membership in the North Central Association of Colleges and Second-1 ary Schools.
