Calgary, Alberta, Dr. Sikabonyi established Plains Geological Service Ltd. to provide stratigraphic mapping and well supervision services. Later, as a consulting geologist, Sikabonyi made some of the first discoveries on the Devonian oil trend in Alberta.

From 1964 to 1967, he generated some twenty-four prospects resulting in about six significant oil and gas discoveries in Canada. In Hungary during 1994, Sikabonyi's company Blue Star was awarded the first concessions granted to a foreign company since World War II.

Major discoveries have been made on concessions adjacent to those of Blue Star and drilling on the two concessions held exclusively by Blue Star will commence this year. At the beginning of his career, Sikabonyi published several papers in the Hungarian scientific journals about manganese ore deposits of Hungary. In Canada, he extensively published about the structure of the Peace River Arch, the oil bearing Devonian carbonate formations of Alberta and the oil fields of British Columbia.
