Michael Baker and Angie are now at home in Diamond Bar, Calif. Captain Baker is commanding officer of the Marine Reserve Training Center at Pico Rivera, and is also instructor and inspector of Bravo Battery, 1st Battalion, 14th Marines. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Middleton and Mrs.

Baker is the daughter of Mrs. Margaret Hanson. Mr. and Mrs. Avery Wilmoth have returned home after spending Christmas with their daughter and husband, Mr.

and Mrs. Doy Dickey of Dodge City. Mrs. Steve Raines and daughter Stephanie of Oklahoma City arrived last evening to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs.

Ed Coman. Mr. Raines and the Comans' son Bill also of Oklahoma City will join them for the New Year's holidays. Toney C. Bresee, who lives at 702 South Street, told police yesterday that someone threw a rock against a storm door, breaking out a glass portion of it.

and Mrs. William J. Brown, 621 North Chestnut, Apartment 3, will observe their 55th wedding anniversary and his 76th birthday on Thursday, Jan. 2. William J.

Brown and Helen G. Crocker were married on January 2,1920, at the of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John E. Crocker, rural Lebanon.

The Rev, Mr. Brown was a United Methodist minister in Smith, Jewell and Phillip counties until a heart attack forced his retirement in 1961. Both taught school in Smith County and Mrs. Brown continued teaching in Athol until 1965 when they moved to Overland Park to be near their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs.

Ray (Karen) Wurtz and children. They moved to lola in 1971 to be near another daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. John (Winifred) Lawrence. The Browns have three daughters, Mrs.

Lawrence, Mrs. Wurtz of Winter Haven, and Loudale Myers of Smith Center; nine grandchildren and six grandchildren. Kansan killed in shootout with poUce INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (AP) Lee M. Sawvell, 43, Independence, was killed Monday night when police answered gunfire from his house with their own, police said.

Eleanor Robinson, Dan and Nancy of Wichita; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Koogler, Jennifer Powell and Jeff Reeve, all of Joplin, and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Shockey of Chanute.

Mr. and Frazier and Janice returned to their home in DeQuincy, Monday after spending the holidays with relatives and friends in lola and Piqua and their children in Wichita. Kris and Becky Sutton, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Sutton, Coffeyville, spent the weekend here with their grandparents, Mr.

and Mrs. Charles Sutton. The Area Symphony Orchestra will resume rehearsals beginning Thursday, Jan. 2, at 7:30 p. m.

The Rev. Ernest T. Dixon, Resident Bishop of Kansas, will be a guest. The fellowship hour will begin at 4 p. m.

and at 5 o'clock an informal meal of sandwiches and salad will be served. The evening will conclude with worship and celebration at 7 o'clock with Bishop Dixon bringing the message. Mr. Dixon was elected a bishop of the United Methodist Church in July 1972 and was assigned to the Kansas area. He has pastored churches in New York and Alabama and has been active in education, serving as president of Philander Smith College, Little Rock, from 1965 until 1969.
