The two series were tied atop the leader board in each of the last two years for awards recognizing excellence in Canadian English-language television. But this year, Road to Avonlea producer Kevin Sullivan's sequel to the popular series Anne of Green Gables topped the nominations with 13 to become the year's leading contender. ENG, with one more nomination than in 1992, received nine. CBC's Street Legal was not far behind with seven.

Road to Avonlea, ENG and Street Legal will compete for the best drama award with CTV's teen drama Neon Rider, which trailed with a total of only three nominations. More than 230 nominations were announced Tuesday for the 1993 Geminis, which will be held in March in Toronto with private ceremonies March 5 and 6 and then a gala finale on March 7 televised on CBC. In total, 55 Geminis will be awarded with an additional six special awards. French-language awards were given in December in Montreal. Regina vs.

Nelles, one of director George Jonas' occasional series Scales of Justice, was nominated as TV movie of the year. The story of Susan Nelles, the young nurse accused of killing four babies at Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children, is up against Degrassi High's post-graduation movie School's Out. Conspiracy of Silence, the true-crime story of a cover-up in the rape and murder of a native girl, is nominated as best dramatic mini-series. The Bernard Zukerman production is a contender in seven more performance and production categories. Meanwhile, the controversial series, The Valor and The Horror, got three nods including a nomination for best documentary.

Director Brian McKenna, who was criticized by CBC's ombudsman for allowing actors to recreate historical events, was also nominated. But the CBC mini-series The Boys of St. Vincent, a fictional account of child abuse at a Catholic orphanage in Newfoundland, will have to wait until next year to enter the contest. The series was banned from broadcast in Ontario and parts of Quebec after an Ontario judge ruled that the film could prejudice the trials of four Christian Brothers facing criminal charges. The two-part series aired in early December, excluding it from eligibility in the 1993 event.

Kids in the Hall, the Canadian comedy troupe now reaching American audiences on CBS, is a front-runner for a Gemini in the category of best comedy series. It was also nominated in two other categories. The popular cutting-edge weekly series recently replaced Friday Night! in CBC's prime 10 p.m. slot. Friday Night! has been plagued by dwindling ratings and was moved to 11 p.m.

Friday led by prime time newcomer Ralph Benmer-gui, was nominated for a Gemini in the category of best variety program and also for a technical award. Both sides agreed the daughter, Dylan, should again have the therapy from which Farrow withdrew her about six months ago. Staff at Yale-New Haven Hospital who spoke to Dylan to determine whether she had been sexually molested approved of the therapy, said the sources. They said Farrow will choose the therapist but Allen has final approval. Allen's visits with Satchel, five, the former lovers' only biological child, will be scheduled by agreement, perhaps by next week, the sources said. They said the film-maker will ask for visits with Dylan some time in the near future, when he CCO nuspppp I prrli 5 THE JUBILEE AUDITORIUM colour and Kigcnntrv, r.ile of King Xeliuc I iff 1 ill ALBERTA THEATRE PROJECTS of sexually abusing Dylan.

Connecticut and New York authorities are investigating the abuse charge. Farrow, who has 11 adopted and biological children, learned last January that Allen was romantically involved with her adopted daughter, Soon-Yi Previn, 21, after finding nude pictures of her taken in Allen's apartment. Farrow adopted Previn while married to conductor-composer Andre Previn. Once the seed of accusation has been sown, it spreads rapidly throughout a small Nova Scotia community, and the case gains the momentum of a witch hunt.

The town's inhabitants are infected with mistrust and doubt, destroying friendships and families in the process. Conclusions drawn by police and social workers leave an uneasy sense that fact may well have blurred into fiction.
