SAN BERNARDINO DAILY SUN, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 7, 1943 Girl Dispatcher At Air Field to Fly Army Ships Pilot Grounded With Outbreak of War to Enter Ferry Service Attractive Maurine Brunsvold, San Bernardino pilot, wants to fly for Uncle Sam.

But she has been grounded since the attack on Pearl Harbor, when the west coast was designated as a combat zone. It takes more than a war to keep Miss Brunsvold away from planes, however. Since last September she has been an aircraft dispatcher at the San Bernardino Army Air field. She has scheduled the arrival and departure of hundreds of planes and helped chart courses for Visiting pilots. She has been accepted schooling under the army's flight training program for women and soon will leave for Houston, Texas, to embark upon her new career. Upon completion of her training, she will be eligible for assignment to the women's ferry command, branch of the army air forces. With her brother, Miss Brunsvold owns a two-passenger cabin plane, which she had been flying since 1938. When the ban on private flying was ordered in December, 1941, she placed her ship in storage in Albuquerque, where it will remain until after the war. HOLDS PILOT'S LICENSE Miss Brunsvold learned to fly at the old Shandin Hills airport.

Her instructor was the late Guinn Cook. At present Miss Brunsvold is acting chairman of the Los Angeles section of the Women's fly ing club, known as the 99's, an organization of licensed women fliers founded several years ago by Amelia Earhart.
