(AP) A karate teacher has been ordered held for grand jury action in the Kung Fu slaying of his father during an argument which erupted as they were preparing income tax forms. Roy Wetzel, 26, of Beaver Falls remained free on $15,000 bond following a SVi-hour hearing Tuesday of a first-degree murder charge in the March 16 death of his father, Willie Wetzel, 54. The elder Wetzel was killed in his son's home after he went there for help in preparing his federal income tax return, Center Township Police Chief Dante Colaluca testified. Colaluca said a fight broke out and the elder Wetzel seized a four-foot Samauri sword and lashed at his son, who then tried to disarm his father. The.

son was kneed in the groin and struck with a coffee table, the police chief said. He said the son then grabbed a pair of nun chucka sticks two pieces of wood attached to a chain and struck his father on the head. Canal ferry studied There's still hope for pedestrians who have to cross the Rideau Canal at Hogs Back after May 1. They could be ferried across. On Monday the regional executive committee decided that $75,000 was far too much to spend on a short-term pedestrian walkway across the Canal when the existing Bailey bridge is taken out for the boating season.

Wednesday regional council decided to study the matter further, instructing regional officials to review a proposal by Ottawa Mayor Lorry Greenberg that boats or rafts be used to take pedestrians across the Canal. Officials will also likely investigate to see if a pedestrian bridge can be built at a cost cheaper than $75,000, The Bailey bridge was imtnllcd last fall when the original bridge was found to be unsafe. It is expected to be removed in about a month. Construction of a new permanent $600,000 bridge is slated to start later this year.
