Retired Ndvy Officer, Combs, Dies At 66 TALLAHASSEE. Fla. (AP)-A former naval advi: or to the U.S. military staff at the United Nations, Vice Adm. Thomas Combs, USN (Ret), it dead at 66..

Combs, a native of Lamar, who commanded naval air operations in the southwest Pacific during World War II, suffered a heart seizure Wednesday. He retired from service in 1960 after post war assignments as commanding officer of the carrier Yorktown, commander of the Second and Sixth fleets and of the vast eastern sea frontier. At the time of his death he was vice chairman and cxecu- i tive director of the Florida Judicial Council in its study of the states judicial system. Adm. married the former Agnes Williamson in 1923, four years after graduation from the Naval Academy.

The couple had no children. He is survived by the widow and brothers, Clyde and Carroll, both Lamar lawyers. Funeral services will be Friday in St. Johns Episcopal Church in Tallahassee. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery.

Dame Sitwell Dies LONDON (AP) Dame Edith Sitwell, one of Britains leading poets and also one of its most noted eccentrics, died of a heart attack in a London hospital Wednesday night.

She was 77. Dame Edith was admitted to the hospital earlier in the day, gravely ill. A spinster, she is survived by two brothers, Sir Osbert and Sacheverell Sitwell. Both are writers also. The three Sitwells, after World War were leaders of the avant garde movement in literature, art and music.

That is what Fairbanks folks are giving the Chuck Garrett family for Christmas a log cabin to house their Christmas tree. The Garretts and their four children lost all their possessions when fire destroyed their home two weeks ago. The Give a Log drive is being co-ordinated by University of Alaska students. Eighty logs, at $5.60 each, have been donated. Professional builders have pledged their time to build the 24-by-38-foot house.
