Don't look now, but this hazer is leading a record number of Canadian steer wrestlers four who could qualify for this year's NFR if they maintain their Top-15 positions in the 1992 world rankings.

After Boggust and Blaine Pederson combined for a Canadian bulldogging sweep at last weekend's rodeo at Kissimmee, the leaders' list showed Boggust, seventh with Mark Roy, 11th, Lee Laskosky, 12th, and Pederson, 15th, $6,753. Boggust is the only member of this quartet never to go to the NFR as a bulldogger, with Pedersen just missing the world title last year when he set an event record with NFR earnings of $61,177. But Boggust's been to three Canadian Finals Rodeos as a steer wrestler. "Todd hazed for Blaine all through the (1991) NFR and he did a great job," Blaine's wife, Yvonne, said Tuesday from their ranch near Amisk. "Even when Blaine had to switch horses, he asked Todd not to switch from our hazing horse, Chip, even though there was a better one available.

Blaine had confidence with Todd and Chip on the other side of the steer and, with that much money on the line, it was important to keep it." The Kissimmee results were typical of the profitable U.S. winter season the Canuck contingent is enjoying. Pederson won the opening round and the average with a pair of 5.0-second runs for a $4,351 pay day. Boggust, from Paynton, won the second round with a 4.5 run that was worth $1,810. Duane Daines, the hottest Canadian, maintained his world saddle-bronc lead with a $1,943 cheque by splitting second with a 77 score.

John Smith added $995 with 76 and Denny Hay banked $158 with 74. Bull rider Jason Keeley won $2,044 with an 81 score for a split of second money, while Daryl Mills added $38 with 76. Calf roper Darren Zieffle picked up $690 with a 9.9-second run for fourth money in the second round. At Bismarck, N.D., bull rider Wayde Joyal's 83 was second for $1,339 and Glen Keeley added $390 with a 78. Guy Shapka picked up $50 in saddle bronc.

Canadians are also faring well at the rich rodeo at Houston, although these results won't be reflected in the standings until it ends March 1. In saddle bronc, Rod Warren won the first round for $4,261 and Daines split second for $3,120. With two of three rounds completed before Sunday's final, Daines holds second in the average with 150 points and Warren shares sixth with 143. Steer wrestler David Roy won the first round with a blazing 3.7-second run that paid $4,835. He's seventh in the average at 10.3 seconds, Laskosky's splitting fourth at 10.2 on two head.

Cliff Williamson captured the opening calf-roping round for $4,204 and, with a two-head time of 19.9 seconds, is splitting second in the average. In bareback, Robin Burwash earned $2,739 by splitting second with a 77 and Bill Boyd banked $685 by splitting fifth in the first round. Burwash and Boud, at 151 points on two head, and another Canuck, Bruce Pierson, are splitting second in the average after the latter scored 77 in the second round for what could be his biggest pay day ($4,261) if he maintains his second-round lead. Barrel racer Rayel Robinson finished seventh in the first round with a 17.96-second effort worth $761 and she's also high in the average after two runs. LITTLE KICKER: Bull rider Cody Snyder faces surgery and a three-month layoff for a broken scaphoid bone in his hand.

He's had the injury for four years.
