Pol Chess Made Simple by-Milton Hanauer. published by Doubleday and available at your local bookstore. The large-format, 189-page book is a bargain at $2.50 and covers just about everything you need to know about chess. It was written in 1937, so it doesn't cover the latest openings, but what was good enough for the Grandmasters of that day is quite good enough for the novice of 1979. And public library is likely to have at least a dozen books on chess.

The LeMoyne brothers had captured the English forts on the coast of Hudson Bay three years before, bat the English had recaptured them. It seems that King Louis was annoyed. Pierre LeMoyne, accompanied by brother Bienville, did as he was told. He, said to Hudson Bay and won a great Victory over English warships there in September, but the effort was wasted. England got Hudson Bay back in 1713, as well as Newfoundland and part of Nova Scotia, by the treaty of Utrecht, The opportunity to capture Boston and New York was lost and never retained.

King Louis' change of mind may also have changed the coarse of world history. Would it be a good idea to store It in plastic, or a fruit cellar in the cold, as you would a fur coat? Fur and suede both require tender, loving care says a representative of a firm manufacturing the suede coats for market here and overseas. This authority suggests that you store your coat in a dry spot, but NEVER, NEVER in plastic. Because suede Is the skin of an animal it must be allowed to breathe during storage.

You might wish to cover it lightly with a cotton cover to keep it from gathering dust, and suede should also be kept in a dark place away from the sun. Can you advise me what Canadian honors have been bestowed upon Sir William S. Stephenson, the hero upon whom the film "A Man Called Intrepid" was based? Later this month the University of Manitoba will bestow an honorary Doctor of Laws degree upon this Winnipeg-born gentleman who ran an Allied espionage network under the name Intrepid but there is no record of Canadian honours having been given to him. Biographies refer to many awards.given this co-ordinator of espionage activities: after having served in France in the First World War (as a member of the Royal FLying Corps where he shot down 20 German planes, the brother of flying ace Richhofen was one of his victims), he received the Military "Cross, the Distinguished Flying the Croix de Guerre, the Legion of Honour; and after having served as director of the British Security in the Western Hemisphere he was knighted in 19-15, and received the Medal of Merit from the United States in 1946 but there is no reference to a Canadian award nor is there reference to a Canadian award in Stevenson's best seller of 1976 A Man Called Intrepid I have a fine old recipe for a rhubarb wine. It calls for sheets of isinglass but 1 do not know what this is.

Can you help? Wine makers will tell you that isinglass is a form of agar (sold in sheet form), and one of several types of thickening agents used to clarify the wine. The clarifying agent thickens around the substance and the 'fining' agent is used to help siphon off some of the loose sediment which gathers while you are making your wine.
