A14 CALGARY HERALD November 30. 1989 Trial date set in hijacking of bus to Portable Ksyfcoaird. OTTAWA (CP) The man accused of hijacking a bus on Parliament Hill in April will be tried in Ontario Supreme Court on Feb. 19. Charles Yacoub, charged with hostage-taking, forcible confinement, weapons offences and intimidating Parliament, will be tried by a judge and jury.

The 32-year-old Montreal-area man appeared without a lawyer before Mr. Justice Thomas Callon on Tuesday to set a date for the trial. Yacoub, a native of Lebanon, was charged after a dramatic incident on Parliament Hill in April. A man, armed with a semi-automatic weapon, hijacked a bus in Montreal and forced the driver to take it to Parliament Hill. The man kept police at bay for more than eight hours while holding hostages in the bus.

She died in her sleep Monday at an area nursing home that she settled in at age 100.

Her niece, Wilma Rogers, who visited her once a week for the last 11 years, said the secret of her aunt's longevity was a mystery to both of them. "I couldn't figure it out. She couldn't figure it out." Evelyn Hughson, the home's administrator, described Thompson as a "dear, quiet little lady." She never took medication, said Hughson, adding Thompson's doctor thought the lack of drugs in her body was the real secret of her longevity. Born Nellie Hazlitt in Toronto on Oct. 21, 1878, she lived in the city all her life.

In 1907, she married postal worker George Thompson. He died in 1951. They had no children. A funeral was scheduled for today. Optional Outputs and (while quantities last) nnilts rinancing u.a.j,.
