Journal, Jon. 2 7 Collinsville At JHS Tonight; Rockets At Home, IC, ISD, Away Cagers Are Big Ten's Top Offensive Unit CHICAGO whizzing basketball team, third highest scoring unit in the nation, leads the Big Ten championship race because the mini take and make their shots better than rivals. Official conference statistics Thursday credit Illinois 4-0 in the Big Ten with an average of 77 field Shots per game and 40.6 per cent accuracy, both tops in the league. The Illini lead the scoring race with an 89-point average, just a Shade under their over-all mark ol 90.5 which is the best for any major conference contender in the country. Nationally, only Morehead State with 97.1 and Marshall with 93.1 head the Illini, who have a season record of 10-1.

Five players were in double figures in scoring against Cambridge. Bob Grove is a former star eager at Canton high and Illinois College and he started coaching basketball at Galva during the 1951-52 season. He starred on Canton's State tourney fives of 1943 and 1944 under Coach Willard Larson, former Collinsville high mentor. Coach Vergil Fletcher of Collinsville and Coach Lewis L.

'Tick Dehner of East St. Louis high have a verbal agreement that neither mentor gets off the bench during a game in which Collinsville and East St. Louis are apposing each other Litchfield high will return to the 1956 Central la high Holiday tourney according to Coach Bob Horton former coach at Sparta. Washington will return to the Pontiac Holiday tourney next December as Pe oria Central and Washington will oppose West high and East high at Rockford in a double header feature Washington high 'will play a 23 game chart next cage season and is looking for another opponent. Jacksonville high has appeared in five State tourney games, four under Coach John Chapman.

Rockford high won over Jacksonville in 1911 at the State tourney 39-23. In 1952 Jacksonville beat Coach Gil Ottawa five 57-47 and lost to Rock Island coached by Wilbur (Strings) Allen 61-49. In 1953 Coach Chapman's team won over Hillsboro in overtime 57-52 and Coach Duster Pinckneyville five downed the Crimsons 58-67 in the next game for Jacksonville at Champaign. Pittsfield high has played two games in the State finals and lost to Rockford 45-13 in 1921. Coach Glenn C.

Pittsfield five lost to Decatur 82-46 In 1949. Quincy high has played in 29 State tourney games including the 1934 State championship. The Blue Devils have won 17 and lost 12 at Champaign in State tourney competition. Jerseyville lost to Bloomington in the i920 State tourney 35-29 while Roodhouse lost to Zeigler in 1939 at Champaign 21-11. Jacksonville high has a tough chart facing eight strong teams before Regional tourney time.

Collinsville, Lanphier, Litchfield, Washington, Peoria Central. Cathedral, Car- linvllle and Shelbyvllle are all strong foes for Coach John Crimsons. The Collinsville five is the strongest in the Southwestern conference while Lanphier is the Springfield City champ and Litchfield is leading the Mid State conference race. Washington won the Pontiac Holiday tourney and has one of the best guards in the State in Tom Adams. Peoria Central is leading the tough Big 12 loop race while Cathedral, Carllnvllle and Shelbyvllle are all tough this season.

Rockets will face Meredosia, play in the PMBS tourney, go to Winchester and Bluffs before ending the season at home against Arenzvllle and Ashland. Illinois School for Deaf will play In the PBMC tourney; entertain White Hall and Mt. Sterling before going to Griggsville and Worden. Missouri Deaf and Greenfield will play at the West End gym to end the season for Coach Jim Tigers before the Regional meet gets underway at the Illinois Deaf gym. Pittsfield high will play at Barry Friday and go to Notre Dame of Quincy next Friday night.

Coach Indians are enjoying a winning year having won the Payson Holiday tourney. Losing only four games this season to Jacksonville and Quincy In scheduled games and to East St. Louis and Assumption (East St. Louis) at the East St. Louis Holiday tourney.

Pleasant Hill and Winchester were beaten by Pittsfield in overtimes while White Hall lost to Pittsfield 60-59 Tuesday night.
